    Modern Day Style Icons

Grey hair has a distinguishing effect with men, particularly with a short beard. Certainly, I feel I look more distinguished now then in my younger years. Though, can't say I'm that thrilled with the thinning of hair with age.:o Earl

In those shots, he has some fabulous outfits. I tend to like only shortly cropped beards when it comes to them, like he has. Have had such a beard for 42 years myself. His hair style on the other hand, not so much.:D Earl

    Spectator Shoes

About 4 months ago found a pair of brown and cream spectators at a Goodwill. Having wanted a pair for a long time, snapped them up-can't beat $4.:D They were my first pair of patent leather shoes and so didn't realize how much they can squeak. Tried treating it with various things but some...

    Recommendations for inexpensive wines

Interesting looking wines, though, of course, not available here. As to local wines here-pickins are slim. The state is known more for wheat. Yes, I consider "inexpensive" to mean $10 and under. My pockets are pretty shallow. Earl

    Spear point collar shirts

Recently picked up a spear point in white. Finally have a dress shirt with long enough collars to allow me to use a collar bar I got from my father-in-law. Earl

At what weather temp is it time to put fur felt to sleep for the summer?

Yup, that's how it is for me, though I only recently bought my first straw fedora and love it. Earl

    Recommendations for inexpensive wines

Interesting that a Walmart carries wines. Ours doesn't. Wasn't fond of the malbec wine I tried, but maybe I just need to try other vintners. Have only recently delved into wines. Had always drank only scotch or vodka, but find myself now craving only lighter fare. Earl

    Recommendations for inexpensive wines

The recent discussion about Yellowtail wines inspired me to start a thread where folks could list their favorite inexpensive wines. My 2 nominees are: 1. Barefoot Wines Merlot- a lush, smooth wine and 2. Yellowtail Shiraz-Grenache blend- fuller than a merlot yet also smooth and ripe with...

Of Sheep-Dip, Rot-Gut, and Furniture Polish. The worst of the worst.

Guess I'm not the only one fond of them. http://www.wine-tribune.com/blog/?p=215 Earl

Of Sheep-Dip, Rot-Gut, and Furniture Polish. The worst of the worst.

I find their Merlot preferrable to others I've tried in a similar price range and like their Shiraz-Grenache blend. Now, I don't venture into deep waters price-wise. So, have no experience with the pricier ones. But, for the $, these are pretty tasty.;) Earl

    Patton

My great uncle was an officer in that expedition, though would have no idea to what degree if any he interacted with Patton. He was classmates with Eisenhower and Bradley, though. Earl

Show us your Thrift and/or yard sale finds

Stopped by our local Goodwill today and picked up a summer weight sport coat- a D Fine glen plaid-golden brown with navy stripes and gold monogrammed metallic buttons- made for his shop when it was in the Mirage casino. In great shape and for less than $4. Finely made jacket made of high grade...

Went fast food as I had a hankering for a burrito and, really, the grilled stuffed burrito from Taco Bell did hit the spot. Earl

What's something modern you won't miss when it becomes obsolete?

Of all the "fast food" joints around here, Wendy's fries-er chips-are the best. Chicken sandwiches aren't bad if you'd have ordered the spicy chicken. Earl

What's something modern you won't miss when it becomes obsolete?

When 4 years ago I had to drastically change my diet due to health reasons and fortuitously dropped 50 pounds in the process, could not afford to replace my wardrobe with all new clothes. Could never afford to replace it with new. Since then, I've been on a thrift store binge, including my first...
