I haven't had a chance to mess with the hat yet—gone all weekend on a boat race. However, when we made port in Baltimore, I made a beeline for a hat shop I knew of in Fells Point. Went in and got to check out the Stratoliner, Whippet and some other hats. They weren't the premier felts (still...
Thanks for the replies every one. Bob, I'll take your advice and give it a go. ingineer, my attic is warmer than toast—I'll give that a try as well.
Thanks again, folks. I'll let you know how it all works out.
That's what I'd like to do, and I guess I'll give it a shot, but dang it's big on me. Should/could I spray this thing to help it along?
Oh, I've got plenty of hair (grows everywhere now), just had four inches cut-off and nobody notices.
Looks great on you. I have a thin toquilla straw version and it's very nice and quite well-made, but I'd rather have an original, thick, sennit version.
hatophile, dig the Stetson and the shirt! Good combo, perfect for a Friday.
First selfie—ever.
I got home last night and girlie-girl brought out a package from "down-under" that had arrived. The CD was cool until I tried it on. I'm 22 5/8" and in-between a 58 and 59 and so ordered a 59. This bugger is big on me—bigger than any other 59 I've had (granted, just a couple). I put it on and it...
Eh, not so much a cowboy hat, just a generic, inexpensive, self-blocked Cuenca that I bought a horse hair band for. Perfectly round. My "knock-about" hat. I've been wearing it in the back, but it could just as easily be worn on the side. Just wanted to know how it supposed to work. Guess I can...
Another newbie question: With horsehair hat bands, are the tassels worn on the side or are they in the back?
It seems (though, I can't remember where) that I've seen them worn on the back in Central America on Panamas, but I always see them on the side on North American cowboy hats. I'm a bit...
Having just recently gotten into hats, I started out being quite a bit self-conscious. I don't know why as I get looks all the time for the long hair. Add a hat on top of that. I've only been wearing Panamas (3), newsboys (2), berets (2) and buckets (2). Nobody notices a bucket much. The flats...
Growing up we had two bird dogs named Whiskey and Soda. House dogs named Poppy (converted from Puppy) and Benji. Two Labradors at different times named Becky and Babe.
Grandfather's bird dogs were William and Queenie.
Oh, and a Brittany Spaniel that I got for my first fiancee (so long ago)...
Ordered the very thing last week and am given to understand that it has shipped. It will be a first for me.
Now, if I can just get it into some kind of shape without screwing it up (after it arrives). Yours looks wunnerful.
Wow, some very nice lids here. You fellas make it hard on an 'ol boy. I'm really liking the Milans I'm seeing and the wide, colorful bands. Good stuff.
Then I would suspect the paper. If you find any kind of build-up on your nib—it's certainly the paper. You can/will notice a difference between ink flow and crap on the nib. Different inks have varying characteristics, but paper coatings show up as as crud on your nib. If you don't find crud...
Your caps are amazing. Real, wearable, art. I've either got to stay out of your shop or start frequenting it.
Whoever (you?) is doing your retro logo/ad work is a talent as well. Class all the way around.
