Daan at South Pacific Berets has some nice North African Chechias. They have some religious connotation from what I've read on his site, but are mostly everyday headwear. It just happens that the majority of people in that part of the world...
Thanks fellas, I've had a lot of fun with tiki—still do, but I don't have as much free time these days. I have to say, the late fifties and early sixties; the whole atomic modern/cocktail/tiki life style appeals to me in a big way. I'm a confirmed retro-grouch.
Mike, it's a little devil in a...
Nice thread. I have about a dozen or more vintage and modern tiki mugs and various and sundry tiki sculptures, art, etc.—most of it stashed at the moment. I'll have to dig them out and record them for posterity. I've seen several vintage mugs in this thread that I'm lucky to have.
A few pieces...
I agree—it could've been done a bit better, though. Probably should have thought it through with a better headline and/or perhaps some body (sell) copy to avoid any confusion and make a stronger statement.
This is a great thread.
Yep, Fruno, it's the modern one. Takes any dent your finger puts in it (as you know). I've got a kind of sloppy diamond in it at the moment—which, I'm liking the more casual bashes it takes. I like your light grey one a bunch. I may have to look at other colors in this model. It's a hit with me...
Wearing the Stetsonian today—really like this hat. It has a feel unlike any of my other lids and I love the color.
Sorry for the non-head shot, but I refuse to be caught taking a selfie.
Hi Spudman, if you do end up keeping it—wet the sweat band from the back and place it over a lit lamp (shade) to dry. You'll find that it shrinks nicely. My CD's were "down-sized" from 59 to 58 in this fashion. They're cured (the sweatbands) differently than Stetsons.
Curious about the elastic in the cotton ones. Do they grip as well as say, the Super lujos? I'm thinking about a beret for the summer sailing season when it's flipp'in hot. Something cool, with a grip that will stay on in good breeze.
Thank you Moon, and eveyone else for your help. What a great community. Fantastic hats, sound advice and encouragement. It's much appreciated.
"Cheech and Chong crown," heh, heh. I'm gonna use that—if I can remember ;)
I read somewhere that union factory labor started with a stripped out fedora, pull it tight on to your head, fold up and cut the edge you wanted. Labor buttons where adornments. The fella below was fond of grommets. I can see where they'd be practical in a factory or industrial environment.
As always, a great looking collection of hats. Eric, those two on your backseat look dynamite. You have mighty fine taste. Me? I'm still getting the hang of things.
BGCD. This one may get a new bash sometime this week.
Fruno, Moon, you're absolutely correct. And, it fits! Gorgeous color, just what I wanted. This hat is tall. Feels great. I'm delighted--thanks for the great input gentlemen.
