Thanks for the link, Jack.
I ran across this site on Etsy and I'm kind of intrigued by this fellow, Lil Grizz's traditional method and product. Any of you familiar with his work or seen his hats first hand...
Just a stock photo I found to illustrate the MP. I'm still looking at doing something like this, possibly with a Woomera.
ETA - I just looked at that again and it actually appears to be a Russell crease with the dent in front like the Mounties wear.
Great collection of hats, Jack!
Would you say that the Tom Horn, Gus and Montana are all the same crease or is there some variation I'm not appreciating?
Just for fun I tried both my OR and CD with Montana Peaks and I was surprised to find they worked well with that crease. I'm not sure why I thought it would require a taller crown, especially since Campaign hats aren't that tall.
You piqued my curiosity so I just looked and found this: "Based on sales data from a hat store that sells many thousands of hats per year (Levine Hat Company), the average American male's hat size is 7 3/8. Head sizes are increasing here, because just a few years ago it was 7 1/4."
I'm...
I appreciate the suggestion! Are these wool felt? For as much as I'm going to wear it, it won't suffer much abuse so it probably won't matter much. Though a fur felt Akubra sounds tempting.
That's a thought. Do you run across many fedoras with that tall of a crown? My CD and OR are the...
I found another dealer http://www.ebay.com/itm/Akubra-Woomera-Hat-Open-Crown-Sand-/161879333431?var=&hash=item6b4c9bf779 and this one lists it as 170cm which does equal the 6.7" you stated. I wonder if the Everything Australia site is in error or what? Anyway, I think I'm going to order from...
Hey Jack, I was checking out the Woomera on http://everythingaustralian.com.au/woomera-hat.html and they list the crown height as 5.3". I don't think that's going to allow enough room for the Montana Peak. I see they have the Sombrero which is over 7" at the crown but it has a pencil curl...
No worries, mate! Thanks so much for the info and I'll definitely look into purchasing a Woomera.
I actually ordred a Gus from Wild West Mercantile made by Rodeo King several weeks ago and it's still on backorder. I might just cancel that and go this route.
Lee's hat didn't grab me as much but props to him too! There were two bowlers as well worn by Stafford Repp and William Challee (see 3 rd pic in OP too)
