Several years ago, I was looking for a vintage-style swimsuit. The woman at the store led me to a string bikini. "This isn't vintage." "But it has cherries on it":eusa_doh:
That is a really neat closure! I don't know what it's called, and I've never seen it before. It looks pretty straight forward. A rectangle of fabric, one side is sewn to the back of the dress, and the opposite side of the rectangle is sewn to the front of the dress. The side seams are then...
That's awesome! My husband and I were experimenting with dye recently (he wanted a giant and sloppy George's cross). When our daughter came in and saw our red-stained hands and cloths, she exclaimed "What's happening?!" You should have seen her face when we told her "It's okay, mommy and daddy...
Most of my failed garments are the result of falling in a love with a fabric. I fell in love with a sheer, gauze-like, light-weight floral that had amazing colours (bright pink and green, palm-sized floral arrangements on a turquoise background). I tried to make a full, flowing gathered skirt...
When my husband and I were just dating, we drove around in his dad's truck a lot. I found an old cassette tape (in the glove compartment) of the "Good Morning Vietnam" soundtrack. Turned out we BOTH thought it was the best soundtrack ever! We listened to that tape all summer! That was over...
These are from Rescued Film Project. Although the article is in French, the video on the page is in English. This man's hobby/project is to develop old rolls of film. He found 31 rolls of film (mostly undeveloped) that belonged to the same man and are from WWII. Very cool...
These names are really cool! My grandmothers' names are Maureen (her mother's name was Jenny) and Simone (french). Some other names in the family: Angéline, Auréa, Lydia, Berthe-Alice, Rose-Alma, Murielle, Emilda (late 1880s), and Freida (also late 1880s). I estimate these to be mostly from...
I'm in the process of transitioning to no-poo. I started off with Neutrogena's "anti-residue shampoo" and then only washed with water. During the following 4-5 days, my hair went from dry and frizzy to a very flat greasy stringy mess. I'm going to a Christmas ball on Saturday, so I decided to...
This thread has been around for a while. Did women back then go on internet forums and talk about half-moon manicures and pincurls? No ... and here we are. Does it really matter if it's something women did then? Probably not. But the fact you are asking this question makes me believe you are...
Thank you, Matt.:o I didn't realize this had been posted before. I'm still trying to get accustomed to the threads beyond the powder room. I'm sorry it's a double post.
Esteban68—While I agree the play on words is lost, she has no "treble" removing the expletives.
1mach1—I learned of this...
I would also recommend making the pincurls larger. My hair is also longer, and I find the tighter pincurls (like in the old instructions books) give me a lot of frizz and are hard to comb out and style.
I second CaramelSmoothie's recommendation. My hair holds a set better if I use less conditioner. I think heavy conditioning is only necessary if hair is washed frequently. There are also several recipes on the internet for flax seed setting lotion. It's high in protein and does a great job...
So many wonderful ideas here! I find being tidy and organized extremely important, especially for those who have difficulty throwing things out. There is absolutely nothing wrong with holding on to 'stuff.' However, if you are unable to locate 'that thing' when you need it (or are just...
Okay it works. I'm sorry the pictures aren't great.
The tuxedo pants have a button fly. There is no label. Anyone have advice regarding care and dry cleaning?
