    The Bowler or Derby Hat

In case you haven't seen the factory on your hat's label... 369-413 St. Marks Avenue Brooklyn. Now, apartments, a short walk to Grand Army Plaza and Prospect Park.

    The Bowler or Derby Hat

Very nice derby - I believe your guess at Knox before the creation of HCA is a good one. I think the d’Orsay curl uses more brim on the sides than on the front, unlike the uneven brim cut that we call a dimensional brim. Just my .02 on that.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

It's a little big for me overall, but the quality has kept it in my hat room and out to wear from time to time. Thanks for the thumbs up.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Borsalino Gorasgu - a hat of ample size and weight, made for sale in the U.S. market but without a store imprint on the sweatband. Perhaps 1940s, just before or just after WWII.

Love everything about this hat, including the mark for the Denver Dry Goods Co. (The Denver).

    Pre 1940s Stetson Westerns

Early Stetson No.1 Quality with vertical inkless imprint. The store name features silver foil which appears on a number of pre-1920 hats I've owned. Not sure what metal was used in the foil stamp but frequently most of it is missing. I'd guess this hat to be c.1920. It has modest dimensions (3"...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

I'd like to say this is a case of blind justice, but have to admit I am partial to this old No.1 Quality. City slicker dimensions, c.1920.

Dating Vintage Stetsons by Liner: A Field Guide

Great to have the hat connected with family history. The dating tools we have around these parts are more art than science. Samples with date stamps are few and far between. Stetson hat size was marked with a small round sticker affixed to the sweatband for much of the 1920s and 1930s, moving...

    The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

Borsalino Ipersca, likely post-WWII. Liner imprint for a Roman retailer but with sweatband markings for the U.S. market. I suspect managing business during and just after the war was pandemonium, much like today.

Dating Vintage Stetsons by Liner: A Field Guide

My guess is that your great grandfather's death predates this hat. It is from the 1930s but the gold printed keyhole size tag likely puts it later in the decade. If you can safely find the LOTXXXX number stamped on the back side of the sweatband near the front of the hat, that might shed some...

    Turquoise/Native American jewelry

Just for a little spice, tiny salt spoon by Kenneth Begay. These come up for sale frequently… I was happy to find one at a modest price. About 2” long, beautifully crafted.
