Nosfe,
I have a Wilson's jacket that I bought in the early 1990s. The brand on the label is Open Road, but it was one of the Wilson's brands years ago. It is a Perfecto-style black motorcycle jacket. The leather is fairly heavy, but it is soft. I wore the jacket almost every day for...
Beautiful boots!
You won't shrink them. I have worn leather boots in all kinds of weather and doing all kinds of activities, and I have never had a pair shrink. I'm talking snow in winter, desert sun, stomping through fires, etc. They may stiffen up until you break them back in a bit, but...
I used Woolite Dark. I have the normal Woolite already, but the Dark stuff stated it would keep dark colored clothes looking dark. I have no idea if the regular Woolite has any sort of bleaching chemical (it states it does not contain bleach), but I figured a dark brown jacket should be safe...
Honestly, the jacket was in great condition. About the only difference was the before pics the leather might have been a little duller. In fact, my wife HATES the thought of wearing used clothes or jackets. I let her try the jacket on and it fit her well (yes, I know this was a mistake). I...
washing success: zero shrinkage!
I know, you guys think I didn't reply back because I ruined the jacket. :D
I used the gentle cycle, and the gentle spin, so the jacket did come out fairly damp, but with no apparent damage. It felt like cold wet leather.
Then I tossed it into the dryer...
Well, I just tossed an old Schott cafe racer in brown cowhide into a cold-water wash with some Woolite. I believe it is a 141 from around the late 1980s. We'll see what happens. Man, I hope it doesn't shrink. The sizing is pretty d@mn good as it is. I just want to clean it.

There are a bunch of "leather jacket washing" threads on the Lounge, so I figure this one is as good as any to ask my question.
I bought a used leather jacket and would like to clean it. I'm sure many would say to send it to the local leather cleaners. First, I don't know of any leather...
lol Alright, alright. I'll attempt some tripod and timer photos in the next few days (I have to find the tripod first). I probably won't have a chance until Friday at the earliest.
EDIT: Oh, those pics weren't really for fit, they were just to show the look of the leather when right off the rack.
Well, thanks to all of the info you guys posted in my "horsehide jacket - how long to break-in" thread here:
http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?74012-horsehide-jacket-how-long-to-break-in
I decided to go for it! I knew what I wanted, a cafe racer with band collar in black, but...
Thanks to this thread, and finding a jacket that fit me, I ended up getting a jacket in black horsehide today. I'll post pics in a new thread...

I have to admit, I haven't come across a velvet flight jacket or motorcycle jacket yet. :D
If I get an HH jacket, I'm looking forward to the "pain" of wearing it.
Thanks again guys! The before and after photos really helped. I believe I am going to go with a horsehide model of some sort. Still haven't made that final decision yet.

Cooperson,
Thanks for posting those pics. That right there was what I was wondering about. It looks like a lot of the gloss is gone, and it's showing some nice wrinkles.
And thanks to the others for the tips. I'm still undecided what leather I might go with, but at least it is looking like...
Griff,
Thanks for posting those pics. It looks like even after a few months the sleeves start softening.
Highwayman,
I checked out that video. Thanks for the tip on that video. That really answered my question if horsehide ever gets soft. I was worried it would be like cardboard forever...
I tried searching but came up with 500 hits and the first few pages didn't really show an answer.
I have looked at a few horsehide jackets and the finish is rather smooth and shiny. How long does it take the horsehide to break-in and lose some of the shininess and start to develop some lines...
No, I broke up with the Skilcraft. :D
Seriously, I have never had good luck with them. I can remember signing the papers for basic training and joining the Army in 1987, and even then I never found a good-writing Skilcraft. In fact, in my desk right here in front of me I just pulled out a...
I don't reply to a lot of threads here, but this one I must.
You do know April Fool's Day was four days ago, right?
I can get crates of all the Skilcraft pens I want, and about the kindest thing I can say about them is that in a pinch you could use one to poke the eye out of a terrorist on an...
BBS,
I just noticed you're in A-town! Yeah, Sherman Bros. will be about your best bet for finding a pair locally and trying them on. Nordstrom's might have some wider widths at the King of Prussia store, but they didn't have a real large selection when I was there earlier this year.
