Feet Up! The Work Boot Thread

I hate to say it, but if those were mine, and I was picking them up at the local Red Wing store, I would have left with either no charge for the "repair", or a new pair of boots.

    Engineer Boots, Harness Boots...

I have to laugh again because that is exactly why I've been flying wearing the engineer boots. Even with TSA pre-check I have to take my footwear off 90% of the time.

What does "in the field" entail? If you're pouring roofing tar and kicking rocks all day, then I'd go cheap. If you're doing something that isn't going to destroy the uppers, I don't see why you wouldn't consider something up to the Whites or Wescos range. Part of my job would be considered...

    Engineer Boots, Harness Boots...

Dm101, As Sloan said, you really never get rid of it. I have a pair of Wescos that I thought had too much lift and would cause problems. I figured I may as well wear them and see what happens. They are fairly well broken in, but still have noticeable heel lift. I've worn them on day trips to...

    Engineer Boots, Harness Boots...

I have various Whites and Wesco. None are exact duplicates to compare apples to apples, but Wesco probably runs a little tighter, so I don't think I'd go more than a half size up. Sock thickness does play a large role in sizing, so you can adjust somewhat as long as the boots aren't too tight to...

The boots look awesome, but what jeans are they????? You can PM me the answer if you want, or answer here. Doesn't matter to me.

Feet Up! The Work Boot Thread

Thanks! I just want to say this worked much better than I expected. The saddle soap did in fact strip off the layer of old wax and dirt. I can't really call it wax, because Obenauf's LP isn't really a wax as most people think of wax.

Feet Up! The Work Boot Thread

Will saddle soap actually remove the old build-up? Do I need to use a stiff bristle brush, or an old rag, or??? I never used saddle soap before.

Feet Up! The Work Boot Thread

I don't recall seeing this question here, but who knows , I may have asked it here myself at some point . LOL How often, if ever, do you strip the old build-up of conditioner/wax from your boots? If you do occasionally strip the old build-up, what do you use? What prompted this question is a...

    Engineer Boots, Harness Boots...

Make that 95%. I am right now wearing a $350 pair of jeans for work on a construction site. I got them in the end of October and have been wearing them every day with an occasional wash. I am not saying this to brag, and I am certainly not wealthy. I just find that the jeans don't develop any...

    White's Semi-dress Boots..

Stringmaster, If you just want a standard build, you can go through White's. For anything custom it is easier to go through Baker's. There is no advantage in going through White's. Andy B

Gustin Jeans Selvage Denim made in SF

I have that shirt, and agree it will last a long time! I'm 5' 10", about 150, and have been purchasing Gustin shirts in the Medium Slim size. If you wash that workshirt and put it in the dryer for about 20 minutes it will shrink a little. Mine now fits perfect. Oh, Josh Gustin is about the...

    White's Boots

I have a few pairs of White's. I'll try to post a few pics later.

“Well, now you have met the owner of Schott . . .”

My brown 141 has been to several continents with me and is in Europe with me right now. It fits and looks great. I'd say the biggest "complaint", if you want to call it that, is that you can't fully customize the sizing like you can with some of the brands mentioned more often here.

Gustin Jeans Selvage Denim made in SF

ProteinNerd, I think that will be tight. I'm 5' 10", 150, 39" chest, and it is a slim fit. I can never find slim fitting shirts, which is why I like the Gustin fit.

Gustin Jeans Selvage Denim made in SF

handymike, Thanks for the reply. That seemed to be the cause to me as well. I worry that the spin between rinses will also cause the problem, even in a front loading washer. casechopper, Thanks for the info. A few of my pairs are probably at the point where just tossing them in the wash won't...

Gustin Jeans Selvage Denim made in SF

casechopper, Do you wash these by just throwing them in the wash with other clothes, or do you soak them and rinse them separately? Just wondering as they seem to have a nice fade and the high wear areas haven't washed out. I have a few pairs of Gustins (but it would apply to any raw denim)...

picked up a Schott 641HH cafe racer in horsehide

That was not me wearing the jacket in the pics above. Anyway, it wasn't THAT much too large for me, and in fact I did wear it almost constantly, so it is very broken in. It looks very similar to what xOUTLAWx posted. I swear I posted pics here. I don't have any on my laptop. I think I have a...
