I think the word 'vintage' should be banned from ebay, as it seems to extend to everything, ESPECIALLY new stuff that might look like something the seller once saw that was older than them, and retro seems to mean anything you couldn't find in the shop yesterday....it's a...
a look
the belt lugs, the buttons, epaulettes, and the general style, plus the name written on the label has numbers as well...something not common in civvy wear
local effort
Got to fly the flag here for the classic 60's/70's Australian denim label AMCO, great jeans and jackets, they went OOB early 80's I think, and were re-launched a few years ago with the usual Made-in-china thing happening, but when I was a kid we all wore these jackets because they...
Found this recently...light fabric, brown military buttons, very Jungle Jim, someone said it was 'tropical issue' but I've only ever seen jungle green stuff for Australian troops of that vintage...could it be US?
o the humanity
I'm obviously out of touch with popular taste going by this example

well I did anyway lol lol lol lol lol
"I HAVE HAD THE JACKET REVIEWED BY AN EXPERT AND UPON CLOSE INSPECTION, HE REVEALED IT WAS MADE BY A COMPANY KNOWN AS AVIATION LTD"...
come fly with me
Yeah I thought 50's at the latest, they (or similar ones) were common when I was a kid and mostly worn by bikies, but this pair don't fit me so onto the stall they go!
tipping point
As has been pointed out, in this country people get paid properly for being waiters etc, so a tip given is ACTUALLY EARNED... my experience travelling around Europe and the US which are after all, supposedly the First World, is that tips are expected, if not demanded, every time...
you pay you pay
I read in some potboiler paperback years ago that the unknown revenge of the republicans was to bankrupt the winners by sending all their gold reserves to russia, and Spain's economy didn't really recover until probably the 70's, but here's another take on the story...
horses 4
As the man said, they are designed for sitting on a horse in the rain, so for any outside activity involving wet weather (apart from heavy labour) they are excellent: I had an old Drizabone for years when I hitch-hiked around a lot, and as a groundsheet etc it was fantastic, and...
no thanks
The fact that people younger than me regularly drop dead hiking the track even now is good enough for me...I can't imagine what the original diggers went through getting shot at into the bargain..this country should celebrate that campaign more than they do....
the price of fuel these days
looks very nice, but I can't help thinking that the amount of drag that thing would generate would not have been an issue 50 years ago, however the way petrol costs are spiralling up today it could affect one's camping budget?
follow on
didn't that follow the strike that was so well portrayed in John Sayles' MATEWAN?
Not many movies around on early 20thC US labour relations, and there are some pretty amazing stories.
a shameful thing
As I said, I'm just interested in the veracity of the claim that maps were printed on jacket lining during the war...I think it's not made by the real Cooper's either...I wouldn't pay $2 for it, but there's no depth to which human taste will not sink...
I won't show you all, but an 'A2' repro is listed on the bay with "maps on the lining just as the old aviator jackets did"....
I've never seen an original flight jacket with anything other than plain lining...did that ever happen or is this just a load of utter bollocks?
