I'm amazed at how much colour has leaked with just plain water, would be interesting to see how light it becomes with even more washing. I voted for the untouched because I enjoy watching my jackets change naturally over time. Note to self, must get a goat jacket one day :-)
Don't worry I've only paid for one, not the returns. I have paid dearly in worry and frustration though, I feel I've aged 10 years!
The good news is have been contacted by Aero and my fingers are crossed once more, a few more sleepless nights on the way :-)
Thanks for support schitzo but sadly I have to correct you, this would not be third time lucky but, due to hide, pattern and cutting issues, it would actually be a fifth remake! It's been a long and tortuous experience.
I did ask the question but the answer was no. Apart from the pockets linings reaching the bottom hem of the front of the jacket I suspect the relationship between the back half belt and the bottom hem might look a bit off.
Many thanks to all who took the time to offer opinions and comment on these two different length jackets, much appreciated. If nothing else, I hope this thread will highlight the importance of ensuring the correct length when ordering a new jacket and how just 1" can change its whole appearance...
Thank you for that Fanch. Yes, the back lengths differ by a whopping 1 1/2". Also, neither are the standard 1930's pattern but the yet to be released Premium slim fit pattern - larger pointed collar, slimmed down arms, higher arm holes etc. The difference might be subtle but the feeling is...
Good grief this going to be tough! My wife prefers the short, my daughter the long.
Edward - I have a kudu pioneer in a longer style so a shorter half belt would be different.
Schitzo - I like them both mate. When I wear the short one, it looks and feels great from the front but looking at...
Well the shorter, standard length jacket arrived today - great service! As with the longer jacket, it looks to be cut from the same batch of stunning dark brown skins and apart from the shorter back length, is identical in every way. How come the specs are identical? well this was cut first to...
Sorry I missed this, you would really need to email Aero for exact pattern details. However, I would guess the main difference is that the Plainsman is more akin to the long half belt, whereas the The Premium 1930's is a short style, like the original Aero 1930's half belt.
+1 I would never dream of hanging a leather jacket on a hook, so why bother. Show us some pics when you get it, I've never owned an A-2 style jacket but it's always been on the wish list.
Sorry for the late reply, had to find somewhere to weigh myself. I never bother normally, just go by my belt - when it creeps up a notch I just stop eating! Anyway, around 185lbs or 84kgs but its all muscle :-) Will take some zipped up when the other jacket arrives, might be here tomorrow!
What a steal! I've seen similar Californian style half belts like this going for serious money on ebay and yours is mint! If it doesn't smell of mold or tobacco smoke, you're in the money! Very nice!
Ha ha, personal preference is so diverse isn't it? :-) Seb, the slope from front to back is what really sold me on the 1930's pattern, it just screams vintage to me, I love it.
Horses for courses I suppose, if you'll pardon the pun :-)
Thanks for all input chaps, much appreciated. Also, great to see a good spirited debate on the subjective topic of jacket length.
schitzo - you know you haven't offended or spoiled things for me in any way, I am a big boy and I appreciate your opinions.
Regarding the collar shape, I...
SJ - I don't think it should be a longer style. The added length came about when I was at the factory getting fitted. Rachel was kind enough to find a used standard size 40" for me to try on, but to be honest the back looked ridiculously high, I seem to recall my belt was showing. Hence the...
schitzo - Good to hear from you mate and thanks for the input. I'm 5'11" but have a long back, even the local cycle shop commented on it when I was fitted for a new mountain bike frame - typical Derbyshire man he said :-)
As you say jacket length is a very personal thing and although I...
