I've always thought of watches as functional jewelry and, like the two rings I wear, they have a certain emotional attachment for me. One is a Longines Evidenza (the same one, according to Longines, that Bogart wore in Casablanca) that my wife gave me in Paris many years ago, in celebration of...
While just looking at the Motolegends site I saw the A1 Engineer Jumper in Green but then noticed it's almost all sold out. Anyone have an idea where something similar might be found, or about the fit? I see there are a few left in small, which on their size chart reads 36-38. I'm roughly a 38...
Hi, Bcraig. I'd say, from reading your posting and seeing your photos, that you might want to take a look at the Akubra Campdraft. Reasonably priced, well-made, good-looking hats. If you're not too experienced in buying hats, they're a great place to start. I think the Bluegrass Green Campdraft...
I thought it was just me. All these years keeping quiet every time this subject came up. Putting a pair of smelly jeans in the freezer with my yellow-tailed snapper and wild boar has always seemed like some kind of health transgression that could only result in something ugly.
August, very nice take on the Windward. I'd always thought of it as a jacket that was perfect for older guys (like me) to cover their beer guts, so I was pleasantly surprised to see it on a younger guy in good shape, pairing it with a hip sort of outfit. I had to go back to the Aero page and...
I've picked up a number of nice ones from Etsy, though the prices can get a little silly. Still, if you check in a few times a week you can pick up some nice ones. I just took delivery today on a very nice rayon-silk tattersall shirt from the 1950's.
The problem is that your body adjusts to the environment, and after a few months in a tropical place 70 degrees feels cool. Last week we hit the lower 50's down here for one day and I had the LHB and a sweater on and still felt the cold. Just this morning it went down to about 65, but there was...
Drat! I've been scouring the internet for months looking for a pair of those, only in an 8.5. Loake's Scotch-grain in that color is very nice. I have the Bedales and the Bosworths, but the Anglesleys are extremely elusive in the U.S. One of these days.
My experience with Thursday Boots is also entirely positive. They're not as snazzy as my AE Walton boots, but then the Waltons get worn about once every two or three weeks and the Thursdays two or three times a week. I'm also surprised how little wear the soles and heels show after two years. If...
I can't help but butt in here and ask if you've got a hat stretcher. I ignored the concept for a few years and then saw a discussion on this forum, and when I realized one could be gotten on Ebay for about $20 I went ahead and ordered one. What a great invention! Suddenly those hats that I loved...
PN, thanks for the link. I've always been partial to the idea of decent leather jackets at a price that's affordable for young guys or those without a lot to throw around. It reminds me of the Sears and Montgomery Ward jackets when I was a kid. The more the merrier.
There's a thread in the hats forum called "AmiCharnel Caps" that you might want to check out. Harris Tweed with beautiful liners and at very reasonable prices. All handmade.
It took me quite a while to pick up on it. I think you're in good company. When I first got into hats and discovered this forum I was all set to order a Stylemaster. Then, after reading some of the threads, particularly the Campdraft one, I ordered the CD instead. After a couple of bad moves...
