DH's comments are right on the money. I've had some success with Peters Bros. in Ft. Worth. For $150.00 you can get a custom hemp in any style and with whatever specs you choose. I have three Stratoliners in three different colors and am considering one more. The website seems to be permanently...
Very much so. I have about 30 pairs of shoes and boots but wind up wearing the Thursdays at least three days out of five. I teach for a living and spend a lot of time on my feet. Btw, have you checked their "Help" page? They have quite a bit of info on sizing and there's a "Contact" button at...
I'm in North MIami. If you don't have any plans for dinner, my son and I are going to an incredibly good Italian place in Sunny Isles tonight. Place is called Timo's and it's right on A1A across from the ocean. Wanna join us?
I'm not sure about that. I have two pair (Captains and Presidents) that I ordered in my usual size and they both fit perfectly. Comfortable boots and a good deal.
Thanks to both you guys. At this very moment I'm trying to decide between a cedar brown CD and a Peters Bros. hemp custom. It's been cool down here all week, but I know the miasma's coming.
Nice job. There used to be an Aussie Outback character who would occasionally appear on this forum and accuse us all of being a bunch of "pooftas" because, apparently, real men treated their Akubras with a certain amount of abuse. My experience has been that you really don't have to be too...
Does anyone recall Art Fawcett's way of mailing his hats? I got an email from him yesterday saying that my hat went out Friday morning and, although I have two of his creations, I can't for the life of me remember how quickly they arrived. I'm wondering if I should expect it tomorrow.
Garuda is a Hindu god with the body of a man and the head of a hawk. I know he's particularly worshiped in Bali, as we picked up a really nice statue of him there many years ago. So my guess is that your jacket could be either Indian or possibly Balinese.
That really is a beautiful hat. Funny you should mention that you've finally found your blue hat, as I just heard from Art Fawcett that my long-awaited navy Milan will be winging its way to me in the next few days. I particularly like the idea of having the only navy Milan (that I know of) in...
Glad to hear it. Buying any kind of clothing over the internet forces you to find out your exact measurements in a way you never had to when you could just try things on, and it's also forced me to acquire tools I never needed before: I now have, in addition to my hat stretcher, a pants'...
Order your size. I have five Akubras and they all came in just a bit big, perhaps the CD's more so than the Fed IV's. They are made with the understanding that they're going to shrink a bit. All of mine now fit just fine. They know their business.
Neither did I. I was looking all over for a navy straw, but it was only after wasting money on a Tesi Sisal that looks terrible on me due to the taper that I thought of Art and said to myself,"Can't hurt to ask."
Vastly preferable for a number of reasons. First, the "Sunshine State" could just as well be called the "Sudden, Horrendous Downpour State." For about half the year we get an amount of rainfall equal to your neck of the woods, and the storms arise as if by magic over the Everglades and with no...
I just got a PM from Art that my navy-blue Milan Landman's body is done and that the hat will be going out next week. I swear, getting that PM from Art is like getting box-seats for a Yankees doubleheader when you're ten years old. I'll be psyched all week.
Also, Art says that he'll be taking...
Really handsome jacket. You're right about the buttoned-up look if rhe A-1, as it emphasizes the military design and its descent from the old military tunics of WWI and the 19th century.
The Tesi Sisol is a nice hat, but it comes with the taper to the crown that's common with Italian hats. I got one last year and have never worn it. One absolutely unqualified suggestion I'd make is the Milan Landman from Art Fawcett. I have two of them and a third in navy blue in the works. You...
