My son and his family came over for the weekend, so we fired up the Big Green Egg this morning, and put a nice brisket, a large boston butt roast and some beef sausage in. The sausage came off at about 4 hours, the rest remained for almost 12 hours. It was fall off the bone , and cut with a...
I was not thinking when I posted earlier. I have my fathers old Marlin 336 SC in 35 Rem. He liked shorter barrels, so got the carbine, where I tend to like longer barrels, but at about 7 years old in 1952 I did not have any input on that one. I'll pass it on to my son or grandson some day.
NIce!! About 11-12 years ago I found a couple of the 1894-1994 centennial rifles in one of the sporting goods stores that was beginning to go the more trendy route. They had one on display, so I bought it then had my son stop on his way home from law school one day and pick the other one up...
I got two new Open Roads last year. The first a 20x felt from Paris Hatters in San Antonio. Felt is much lighter and softer than the standard model and just generally feels better. The second is a straw model, not the stiff white Shantung, but one in a true straw from Ecuador that is more...
I will have to agree with that. I was lucky to find mine, especially in 28ga. I wish I could afford a couple in large gauges or maybe a rifle. A new Darne is a very expensive gun.
I do have one other slider, a 16 ga Charlin. The smoothness of the action makes the Darne feel crude by...
A a few old pictures of my Vetterli.

One of my most fun guns is an 1869 Swiss Vetterli. It's a bolt action repeater, holds 13-14 shots in a tubular magazine and has a lifter mechanism which apparently was copied somewhat from the Henry or early Winchester lever actions. It shot a 10.4x something (metric) bottleneck rimfire...
I don't go by my first name but use a contraction of my middle name, Jefferey to Jeff. If someone calles me John, I generally ignore them. At my age I prefer Mr and my last name.
Too cold today to go out to the shop and look up data I have used. I have some of the 270 gr Speer bullets as well as some 286 gr Privi bullets which work well also.
That's the reason I will keep mine. I have never had a bolt action rifle that handles as nice as that little 46. Now if I could find one in 6.5x55 it would be a really good day.
Nice looking 146. One of my favorites is a Mod 46 in 9.3x57. It's too nice to try rechambering, plus I would doubt integrity of the action with a higher pressure cartridge. Having a backup supply of unused Norma brass helps also.
I have a few that would fit this category. My favorite is a Husqvarna 46 in 9.3x57 ok for med to larger game at close to moderate ranges. It is a 1929 vintage rifle in the classic English or European styling and fits me like a glove. It sports a 26"barrel with a single leaf express type...
