I had the privilege to try on both styles, new and old one. I have to say, I liked the older one more but I am between two sizes, sadly. The new cut however if more original based didn‘t worked for me. To wide on bottom related to size and some feeling of a „sack“. But I have to say, you are...
If you have jackets like you mentioned from Aero Leather, Real McCoy's, Golden Bear and Buzz Rickson, then you will always be disappointed with a 5Star.
The BJ21101 model is the successor model to the BJ9111 with an adapted fit. The previous model was narrower, which should indicate that you actually received the BJ9111 model. Lost & Found offers both models. However, what I noticed when looking at the photos on the Lost & Found site the...
+1
You hear enough horror stories about leather from the Far East that releases chemicals after the tanning process that leaves irritations on the skin. If I remember correctly, some forum members also reported such smells on 5Star leather jackets. There is a reason why e.g. shinki leather...
If you have no experience in custom ordering and how to do it, it will almost certainly fail. Also, a leather jacket from FL is a bad idea, as already mentioned for the reasons.
The price is always a thing. Of course, a leather jacket made in the USA cannot compete with a leather jacket made in Far East in terms of price. The reasons are known, namly the low wages. If you have time and patience, you can still find a bargain every now and then.
Note: Seen this way, the...
I think a differences that emerged here in this thread from 5Star Leather has probably to do who sewed the jacket and which leather was available at 5Star Leather while producing, as well as of course the cutter who carefully assessed the leather for consistent consistency. I also assume 5Star...
+1 It always depends on the eye of the beholder and what experience he has had to compare the different products with each other. Just as you had your experience with boots (where I also have a bit of a say), I had my experience with leather jackets. Schott e.g. is mass-produced, the leather is...
The same applies to me e.g. with aero leather jackets, I was over the moon when I had my first aero leather jacket around 20 yrs ago, there are now about 35 aeros in between, lol. I don't own a single one today. On the one hand it was due to the fit, on the other hand it was due to the...
You are right FW is doing very small batches from time to time if they have sourced the leather they are looking for. But they don’t make a regular run atm. A big re-seller here in Europe was able to order 2 (!) FW leather jackets recently.
Edit: Due this fact new selling price will be US-$...
About the pattern e.g. in my Classic 1930s I have to say I like it but it's true as mentioned from others they have narrow shoulders ~18" (46 cm) for a size 42". Also the pattern has some flare from mid section to bottom, you like it or not (same goes for A-shaped FW Brakeman). The Chest armhole...
I got in touch with DH asking some questions, here's their answer:
Hello, glad to answer your questions (I asked for pattern making and buckle). Yes we do the pattern by ourselves and we adjusted every single details about the measurements. About the buckle, it’s a kind of vintage style. But we...
