Not at all, I find it refreshing to exchange opinions, even if they don't correspond. That's the icing on the cake as long as it doesn't go below the belt, which is not the case here at all. You expressed your opinion honestly and qualifiedly regarding your experience with the 5Star leather...
By the way, I find this thread, like others in this forum, excellent for beginners to get their own idea of 5Star in this case. This information is worth its weight in gold, I would have been happy if I had received such information when I was starting out and that too for free. We @ton312 and...
I definitely understand your point of view and also think you can give an objective assessment of the 5Star leather jackets based on your experience. As I said, I am quite happy with my two jackets from 5Star even if the steerhide is embossed. Regarding your assessment of the made in Japan...
Maybe it was just luck with both of my 5Star leather jackets (Roadmaster & Trojan) or maybe it's because I gave a 10% tip to the team when I paid. As mentioned, I am more than happy with both. Looking back, I would change two or three small things on the Roadmaster. The Trojan turned out...
@Canuck Panda I was asking about how I like the nitta HH vs. Shinki HH, here my answer:
Both leathers are similar in thickness, appearance and haptic. The DH is a tad thicker maybe 0.1 mm. The FW shows a bit more grain but the DH is new and I think the grain will pop up after some time with...
I really like the haptic of the veg tan HH from nitta tannery and the semi aniline top coat used. Deep black and shiny but of course that’s a personal preference.

I like the slighly longer lenght on this jacket a typical 30's Hercules Style. Also the three Pancel Back design with the narrow half belt is to my taste in combination with the slightly A-shape, flare from mid section to bottom.
I have to say both of my 5Star jackets, the Roadmaster and the Trojan, are on par with a Vanson jacket. The leather on both models (black and seal waxed cowhide) is great, they fit very well and the workmanship is impeccable, equal if not better than Vanson. As I mentioned, if you do your...
Yes, with a few small changes. The trojan is a bit longer and has no belt loops or sleeve straps because I wear it as a “civilian” jacket. The protech is my "bike" jacket, which with its shorter length is perfect for my upright sitting position on the bike. The half belt on the 5star trojan is...
Here are two photos to illustrate the difference between two panel and three panel sleeves. On the left the Roadmaster with two panels and on the right the Trojan with three panel sleeves. The sleeves on the Roadmaster are straighter, the sleeves on the Trojan are turned more forward.
You are right about sleeve techniques used by 5Star, but I have to say it turned out perfectly with my 3 panel sleeve on the trojan. Also I have the same feeling on some "strange" sleeve configurations from Thedi and FL (both looks as vests with added sleeves with very pointed shoulders)...
Thank you for your kind words. Good luck for your upcoming custom project too! The measurements given on the paper seems to be a bit short in length. In fact, the jacket is great to wear with with an authentic look.
Same for me as @MrProper said. It never bothered me to wear a veg tan leather jacket in the rain. On the contrary, that is only good for the jacket (mold to your body). There are also quite some difference in veg tan to veg tan, different tanneries different leather. My FW leather jackets have...
Maybe you've already partially ruined the jacket by adding dye to the inside. Stay away from it, as already mentioned, wear the jacket and it will hug your body and develop a beautiful patina.
