I don't know much about A-2's, but I'm guessing that pockets are a standard size and the size of jacket you purchased is pretty small by modern standards. I'm just guessing that the model jacket displayed on the site is a larger size and makes the pockets look smaller in comparison to the rest...
Beautiful photos! My favorites are always sepia and black and white.
LOL. I was gonna say something, but his historical knowledge was so impressive that I was actually in awe. Come to a jacket forum and learn wold history...can't beat it!
Ya it was a little too big for her lol. Thanks for the compliment.
Thanks I thought it was beautiful when he sent me a few samples of different shades. I'm not sure if there are any fence or other markings on the jacket. I asked Alan to find the most beat up part of hide he could, but I...
According to Aero, the steerhide is just as water-resistant as the horse due to the chrome tanning process used. I think there are a few folks that have ridden with them in the rain and believe the horse may be less prone to soak through, but its pretty heavily debated. Either way, getting...
Ha! I've spent several years breaking down her defenses and weakening her. Our main difference is I buy clothes or shoes and they last two decades, she buys something and it lasts two seasons. Buy once, cry once.
The first few years it was "Another jacket??? You can't be serious!"
Then it...
That is absolutely breathtaking! I'm not easy to impress, but I am in awe. Wonderful photo.
On another note, while I am one of the folks who have no dog in this fight, since I prefer steerhide over horse, I've always found that steer has a much heavier grain than FQHH does. I'm not sure if...
That is actually really sound advice and you are probably right on all accounts. On the other hand, if there IS something wrong with it (I also doubt this), I'll be able to start worrying about it starting the day after xmas, since I'll have comedy movies and alcohol to lighten my spirits the...
Its becoming more intolerable by the hour...4 days to go...I can do it.
I'll work on that. My wife already thinks its weird I wrapped it, I'm not sure how much laughter a request for a photo by photo opening ceremony would generate.
Yes its the bomber styel. He can get in just about...
That would be cheating. Besides a few days difference wont matter and there is no surprise at Christmas then. If the fit has to be tweaked (we used an off the rack jacket as a guide) its going to take a few weeks at least anyway.
After you have played with a few samples of different weights...
Just had to see what all the hub bub was about with the Mr. S link. There are just some things in life that one cannot un-see. Luckily, I was already damaged good before clicking on that link so the mental and emotional impact should be minimal lol.
This might help you decide.
Would you prefer A) A thicker heavier weight jacket stiff enough to stand up on its own, or B) a thinner lighter weight jacket stiff enough to stand up on its own?
I'm a huge fan of steer over FQHH, so I'm biased, but the only thing I would be pissed off about in...
Thanks! Merry Christmas to you and yours as well.
Actually, I thought I would diversify my options and I went a new direction this time :) I went for thickness over weight with this one. The box is only 9 pounds. Although Johnsons packaging is just a no frills normal thickness cardboard...
I know its torture, but I love Christmas and this makes it even better...5 days....I can do it! (I think). LOL I forgot to check your Mr. S. URL. I saw it earlier , but was on my work laptop and decided it was probably better to wait.
I'll be interested to see what you and Alan come up with.
Well...I'm making myself wait to open it on Christmas.
I haven't seen it, but I have a pretty good idea how its turned out. Here are the specs:
Based off of an M130 pattern size 44, with a few inches taken in here and there for a closer fit, but still relaxed enough to wear a...
I have a very nice heavy cashmere navy overcoat from Hickey Freeman that was custom tailored for my grandfather who is on the heavier side. It is very heavy and the cashmere is flexible enough that it doesnt wrinkle my suits. I took it to a tailor that makes very fine men's suits and had him...
LOL! I read your post and I kept thinking to myself "Golden Bear...Golden Bear" that name sounds so familiar but I couldn't place it. I got the smallest inkling that I had a jacket with a tag that had the name bear on it and was made in CA. I went rummaging through my coat closet and sure...
I have to agree with everyone else, it really does look like a custom cut jacket. Fits extremely well and the color is outstanding. Getting it on sale is icing on the cake!
