I got a response back from Aero and I havent ruled them out, but I am going to continue looking. The cost for the jacket including shipping and duties would be somewhere between $1200 and $1300 USD, which is close to twice what my last two were and probably beyond what i would feel comfortable...
Thanks for all of the input. I wish I could visit Johnson Leathers too. I used to travel quite a bit and was in or through San fran often, but no more. I'll contact Johnson and Fox Creek tomorrow, as well as Aero and see which option makes the most sense.
Thanks again!
Thanks. I figured they didn't because their custom section of the website only showed motorcycle jackets from what I recall. If I could get a jacket with the thickness of this Aero and pay less than $850.00 for it I'd be thrilled, but I can probably go up to $925 before I would feel too guilty...
Thanks guys. I had checked out their website, but I didn't pursue it as it looked like they only made motorcycle jackets, with the exception of one A2 style jacket. I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they say. Will said my last Aero was from 5.5 - 6.5 oz, I guess it was a small roll...
I promised myself I wouldnt order a 3rd custom jacket until I finished grad school and I just graduated. However, I haven't kept up with the prices and itseems they went up once or twice 2010. Now, that in and of itself isnt a show stopper and I think I can scratch together a few hundred more...
I don't think I could choose between my two custom aeros, each one is my favorite depending on the day. I probably have 25 or so jackets of varying materials and quality, but if the house was burning down and I could only carry two things, I think these would be them:
Its funny. I have a B3/ANJ4 cross from aero that is 100% overlaid in horsehide and weighs in only 1.5 - 2 pounds lighter than the steer hide. It feels extremely heavy when I pick it up, but feels like a warm soft blanket when I wear it. Its like wearing a really thick sweatshirt and I don't...
as far as heavy weight steer (I know its not langlitz) but it varies. I ordered a custom jacket similar to a halfbelt with a little extra length in extra heavy steerhide Aero was able to find some extremely heavy steer and its just over 12lbs. You can always go the other way and ask whomever...
This reply is a bit late, but Aero can do just about anything you want. I have large arms and a broad chest which make normal arm holes really uncomfortable. I have aero make my jacekts with wider than normal sleeves and lower the armholes. Honestly, the only time Ive had aero tell me they...
I may be ordering another custom Aero A2 in the near future. I could care less about historical accuracy and I will be changing the collar size and shape, the zipper, the and likely the knits to suit me as normal through Amanda and Will.
A question Ive had that Amanda hasnt yet had the time...
I know Im late to the party on this one, but I own an extra heavy steerhide aero which is a bit of a cross between a cheyenne and highwayman. When I ordered from Will, I asked him for the heaviest thickest hide he could find. Will sat with me on the phone and found a piece that he said was...
Another thing to mention is that most get their jackets custom cut to their specifications. I dont have FQHH, but I have some heavy steer which is notably heavier and more stiff. If the jacket was not cut to my specs and measurements and was ill fitting, it would definitely not be comfortable...
Well I dont have FQHH, I have heavy steer, but I just scraped the crap out of one of the sleeve. Tore the color right off in a small spot and now have a brown natural looking scratch on it. Dont even remember how I did it. I love it lol. Any other extremely expensive piece of clothing I...
Makes sense. It is pretty funny to see. I dont know if the contractors realize how much they stick out. The fact that they dont have wings on their jacket makes it really apparent.
Now what really makes everyone jealous isnt the jackets, its that the pilots get to walk around in flight suits...
IMO a jacket of the barnstormers stiffness and shape will accentuate love handles, especially on someone of average height or shorter. If this doesnt bother you, then it seems like a great coat, if it would make you self conscious, then its probably not the best choice.
I work in the Pentagon from time to time and I have only seen one older gentleman, who didnt look like he had flown for quite a while, wear an A2. I havent seen any pilot or senior officer wear an A2 or G1 other than that one person. They all wear green flight jackets, Im not much into flight...
They will make it any of the mackinaw wools, but there is a 35% additional charge. One just sold on ebay new without tags for 600.00, which I think is absolutely insane. The stock color of the wool packer coat can be had for around $300.00.
