I think it depends on the model and manufacturer. Here's what Matt Deckard had to say about the Fortune and Glory a while back on COW:
Also, unrelated, but for posterity:
Looks like JJ will ship internationally for $50 usd. Don't know if that's a deal breaker for you or not. They're currently 25% off for Fathers Day, so you'd be around $230 shipped for the Royal Deluxe version:

As the resident millennial/kooky west coast urban dweller, I really have to push back on this narrative that has largely been forwarded by talking heads who have willingly distorted reality and/or uncritically joined in on circular, insular discussions (some examples might be some notable...
I don't think the 4x has been current for a long time, probably 80's or 90's. I could be wrong, but I believe the western grade OR has been at 6x for quite some time. 4x currently designates a wool or buffalo hat. The current offerings are 6x, Royal Deluxe, Pure Beaver, 100x.
Here is hat build #4. I blocked it on a 6", #52 block, 3" brim. I put a few dry creases in but they all seemed too tall. So I decided to try a different western crease. I saw this photo on the Paris Hatters site:
I didn't get quite the blocky center 'trough,' I guess they went lower on the...
We really cannot just ID a hat with only exterior photos. It could be any number of nondescript felt hats, especially as his is quite weathered.
Presuming he bought it from a hat shop (a big presumption to be sure), you might also look at the Bates or Christy's lines. Even if it was a Bates or...
I did a hand bound edge.
a while back I bought this antique ribbon on etsy that was made for silk flower making. It has gradient coloring and a moire pattern. Unfortunately it basically started disintegrating while I was working with it. It would have made a really cool binding. Alas, it was...
It may be possible to squeeze one more 1/8" but I was pretty close to the perforations when I did the brim trim. I really like my Cypress build, it's very frequently in the rotation.
Adam Savage stretches an eBay western. Unfortunately he's fallen under the "everything is an Open Road" spell, because he keeps calling this Resistol western an Open Road .
We have so many Akubra threads going already that all of the threads you've started in the past few days could be merged into. Perhaps consider those (e.g. Akubra questions; specific threads on the Campdraft; threads dedicated to conversions and mods; not to even mention "ask a question get an...
The nice thing about having a smaller head size is that I can eek out a 6" crown and 3" brim from this dress weight FEPSA beaver in moonshine.
This is my new Randal Alan #52 block. Good profile on this one, compares favorably to the vintage block I have.
The only factoid I can contribute is that Hatco still has the "Especially For" die. The one below was embossed for musician Nikki Lane
