Are these prices for one beaver fur felt hat blank?
I have never purchased a beaver fur felt hat body blank and if these prices are for one hat body blank, I will stick with the rabbit fur felts.
I have a Crystal Skull style hat, made by Steve Delk, size 7 3/8", it is not a spare, I have never worn the hat, I have kept it in a hat box every since I received it from Steve. Looks like you wear a size 7 1/8" Have you tried posting on Club Obi Wan? You might get someone to make you an Indy...
When I made my first rounding jack, I just used a couple of flat washers between the brass and the wood, that helped a lot and I made that rounding jack out of old tongue groove boards from an old farm house floor.
Here is an update of my rounding jack, I have made a few changes to it and I might make a few more changes, I am always looking for ways to improve it. The base is 7" long, tip to tip and 1 1/16" wide in the center, I flared the tips out a little so the base would work on a long oval, when I put...
With beaver at those prices, I don't think to many hats will be sold made of beaver. I couldn't afford a beaver fur hat body before, now the cost is up as high as a car payment. What is driving the cost up, cost of fuel for transportation, the war in Ukraine or both? I think that this is going...
Scratch that question, I just realized that once you use the formillion, you stick that tool into the hat to form the leather sweatband to the shape of the head. The center sections of the tool look to be kind of large in diameter.
Do you make a wooden pattern to put in the hat to conform it to the customer's head? I made one out of wood and through a lot of trial and era I made a piece to use to force the hat into a confrontable shape for my head, it is close enough, not perfect. I didn't have any way to get my head shape.
I like the unit that you purchased, made of either Lexan or plexiglass it is light in weight and when the customer puts it on their heads for a fitting, it has to be a bit more comfortable on the head, plus it is easier to pay for, 2-4 thousand for a heavy wooden unit, ouch. How do you get the...
I like the sweatband method, makes everything easy, all the way down to the block size to use. I guess that you are getting to use the your formillion tool a lot.
Thank you for all of the information, now I feel better about a granite color hat with my dark blue suit, I guess a dark or medium blue hat band will go with the granite color. My wardrobe is really kind of boring, blue jeans, gray T-shirts, or blue jean long sleeve shirts with pearl color...
Well when he drops by to order another hat, hopefully sooner than expected, let him try different colored hats on, let him try on a beaver and see how he responds. That should be interesting. Did he have another color in mind when he bought the granite?
That is a real nice looking hat, I am sure that your client will be ordering another hat from you and then he will order a third hat as well. Give that he has always worn hats he will start replacing all of his wool hats for rabbit or beaver, just wait till he puts a hat made with beaver on his...
The Linen would be a lighter fabric for a summer hat that is for sure. However would you have to add some type of interfacing to get the fabric to hold shape?
I like it when you post information like this, I thought the holes from stitching couldn't be removed until you posted this information, another copy and paste into a Microsoft Word document. The little hat bow sitting at 3 O'clock position is a weird one.
I am still working on my rounding jack when the weather permits or when I can do a little wood work in the house. I made my rounding jack so I could put the utility blade in with the cutting edge facing forward or back, this way I can set the jack up to either push or pull the rounding jack...
Well since you refuse to give the hat a flame job, you could always add a feather to the hat, there was an add on Etsy yesterday for Rooster tail feathers.
This should be interesting, since you're doing something different maybe you could post some photos of your process, this could be the begining of something new for you.
I have been working on a rounding jack when the weather permits. My work shop is a small shed out back and even tho it is now Spring, the temps are nuts, 50's and below and then one day 70 degress, looking forward to steady weather. Today I was able to do a little more work on my project and I...
