I recently purchased a miter chop saw with a laser light, it would take several cuts to make a band block but it would cut down the time needed for sanding. My other saw is a Ryobi jigsaw, good saw but there is one big problem, the blades will pop out of the guide at times and cut the wood at an...
That sounds like a big problem, looks like you're going to stick with it, let us know how it turns out, I hope you beat this problem. I am not real happy about the surprise problems, it always throws me off. I almost tossed my brown hat into a gallon of denatured alcohol to wash out all of the...
That setup works great until your wife decides that she no longer needs the grease splatter screen and pitches it. I found that it works even better if you soak the felt in hot water then use the screen and pot for steaming the felt.
I recently did a little work on my Granite Grey fedora, I replaced the hat band and bow, and rebashed the hat. The hat is 100% rabbit, the front height is 4 3/4", rear height 4 1/2", 5 1/4" high on sides, the brim is 2 1/2" wide, hat size 7 3/8", the hat band is Vintage Dark Grey Grosgrain...
I use Muslin cloth that I purchased at the local Walmart store, I fold over a large piece, just big enough to cover the hat brim and the flange, after working on the hat, I let it sit for 2 days. Thank you for posting this information. However if you use cloth and there is even a wrinkle in it...
It is the first time that I have posted a hat for sale on the forum. I hope to sell a few more hats that I have made. I have recently reworked a few of the hats by replacing the hat bands, the bows and reworking the bows. After reworking the hat bands and bows, everything looks better, a little...

Well my 58cm hat block arrived today in the morning mail. The block is 58cm diameter, 6 1/8" tall and it has a clear coat.
Clint told me that he has his CNC machine all setup and ready for work. I worked up some information for him to work with and he has put it to good use, so if you contact...
He doesn't make brim flanges right now, he is busy making hat blocks. Clint use to make hats and sell them out of his car, sometimes traveling 100 miles to open up for sales. He has a CNC machine that he is working with. When I ordered my first hat block I ask him if he could make me a style 52...
Hello Everyone,
I recently found someone out in Missouri that makes hat blocks and he makes the blocks to your specs. Clint makes a good hat block at a good price. He sells the blocks for $100.00 each and that includes shipping. He recently made me two hat blocks, the first block is a 59cm...

The Fortune and Glory maybe a little thicker, you might want to check the two felts with a Caliper just to find out. The edge of your 1920's brim looks to be a little more tapered than the Fortune and Glory hat. The felting process in the 1920's may have been done by hand and the modern process...
I have been away for a while due to COVID and I just finished another hat. It is a black stingy fedora 100% rabbit fur, the open crown was 5" before a little bashing and the brim is 2 1/4" wide, the hatband is a 1" wide brown charcoal grosgrain ribbon and the bow keeper has some blue gray...
I watched this video before and I noticed that the person making the hat was using waxed thread to sew the sweatband into the hat. The only time that I use waxed thread is when I am making something with leather, belts, cellphone cases and I use what is called a saddle stitch. There is no way...
Well Brother, I think that we are all in the same boat because this winter blast is reaching all the way down into Florida, think about that. There are a number of people down there that do not even have winter coats, they are use to going to the store in shorts, sandles and sometimes string...
If you made this hat for yourself because you were bored, how often do you get bored? Your work on hats is always outstanding, top shelf, boredom plus you equals nice hats.
I know what you mean about buying equipment, I am getting ready to make a new rounding jack and a few crown blocks. I made the 52 style block that I use and I pieced together a rounding jack, now I am going to make improved tools for my hat work.
