Nothing's wrong ...it's all good :)
It got me thinking " that would be great leather to have a Detroit in ! " ( the pic AL posted was a Roadster )
Jacket is ageing nicely ... It's got a few more scuffs and buffs - it's struck through - black all the way through - so scuffs hardly show ...
Looks like a nice sweater somewhere in between the Aero Dehen 325 GBP and the Eastman Navy Sweater - 100GBP
Still a chunk of change for a jumper but heading into more reasonable territory IMHO
This was an Aero leathers term @mid 00's to describe a grainy and slightly shiney type of horsehide they sourced as a cheaper alternative to CXL and other premium HH grades. Rumour had it at the time that it was called "jerky" at the time because of its visible similarity to " beef jerky". This...
Want to look like a Power Ranger ... go Alpinestars .. 365 if you want waterproof .. GP Pro if you want race protection
If you want ULTRA protection go Knox Handroid
If you want fit go BKS made to measure
If you want protection from falls and the weather ... then go Rukka or Held
If...
In the US I'd second the vote for Johnsons .... great work and very approachable re. customization. I think the jacket sounds cool .. very similar to the Levis Big E suede Western jacket ( sherpa lined) of the 60's.
Stu at Lost Worlds does and "Rancher" and a "Jeans Jacket" ( very type 3 esque...
go buy some sachets of "Neutradol" works really good .... comes in spray, sachets ( containing a jelly as described above) or powder ..... used my many car dealerships and I've used it with great effect in getting rid of smells in m/c clothing ( mainly jackets and boots) ...... freezing has also...
As I've posted before ... in around 30 years of collecting and wearing vintage leather jackets I've NEVER seen a vintage (1930-'s - 50's) leather jacket made from Horween Heavy FQHH / Steer Leather (3-5oz). As far as I can tell from discussions the Horween products were primarily used for...
That's sweet .... and looks in great nick .... so many of the US shearlings suffer from sheepskin rot :(
I'm loving the turned up cuffs .... this is how I wear my Eastman which is very similar to this ( stud fastening on the pockets etc. )
The entire zipper gusset can be replaced relatively simply .... I've had these retrofitted to jackets in the past ..... cost was around £30 for the two cuffs.
I've used Simmons Bilt, Rachel Dobbs @ Dobbs Leathers, BKS, Scott Leathers, Wolf Leathers and Aero for alterations in the past. All have done sterling work :)
There are lots of UK options .... I haven't used Aero recently so can't comment on their work, I have used SB and they have been...
It was a tab for clipping an oxygen mask to .... featured later also on the B-15 and MA-1 jackets ( ISTR). I've only handled 3 original jackets and none of these had this tab though I have seen one M-445 with one fitted ( though it looked to have been retrofitted as it was a different color -...
I have numerous wool Filson vests, a mackinaw cruiser jacket and a tin cloth packer and all are tough as old boots. In fact I bought a smaller Packer on Ebay a couple of weeks ago as the large is .. err ... large :)
Haven't noticed the Tin Cloth smelling at all ( and certainly no more than...
On racing suits and some prop jackets when I did work with DCA ( who service a number ofd the F1 teams etc. ) they used a very strong ( and quite application specific) 3M double sided adhesive and it lasted about 3 washes / 6-8 weeks and leaves no residue on Nomex/polyester or coated / finished...
So therefore ... all Shinki is NOT the same ... I equally know that Shinki have "grades" of leather like most tanneries and therefore must produce multiple finishes - they certainly produce shell cordovan for the footwear market which you would be very unlikely to make a jacket out of ... I...
'fessed up to what ?
Knowing Will Lauder ..... I've NEVER hidden that fact ( I know KEN, STEVE, AMANDA, GARY and many others In the Leather Jacket world), I counted him as my friend ( as did Ken, Lydia etc. in fact they much more so than I ) ??? His fall out with Aero, didn't stop me buying...
I have a medium Eastman ... albeit it's about 10 years old now ... and it's bang on 7 1/4" and a snug but not tight fit on my 59cm bonce. Looks like they may have altered their sizing in recent times ... or changed manufacturer.
It gets worn with the ANJ-4 .... otherwise I look like I've...
That looks like a heavy beast ... I bet ( once tamed and beaten up a bit ) it would be nice though.
It won't get much love here though .... but I'd wear it :)
Dear oh dear ... that's almost "News of the World" reporting Sloanie :)
1. I was a business customer of Aero Leather Clothing ( as were my partners Ace Café Limited ... and I AM a partner of Ace Café still)... check the facts, you've obviously seen draft contracts .. they are facts .... you...
