What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

Thanks @Will Zach; bad weather and some choppy seas are all part of the job, my friend.

What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

Putting some “mileage” on the LW Rigger (as much as possible during these summer months). Got caught in afew vicious thunderstorms and the LW Horsehide just shrugged off the rain. Amazing stuff!

    AN 6552 or what

That waistband looks like a replacement to me. Otherwise looks like a cool jacket.

What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

@Bfd70 no worries my friend, it’s a bit of both! Halfway thru the journey I started to look more for G-1’s rather than A-2’s. And the last couple of years I wanted a civilian-style jacket rather than a military one. It’s kind of like switching from vanilla to chocolate to strawberry as your...

What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

Thanks @Robbie79! That first jacket was a size 44 regular and I wore that one just about every day for 10 or 12 years. It looked incredible. Sadly I outgrew it. Had to sell it and bought a 46 Long (which I still have, going on 10 years now). My Rigger is a 48 Long (bit of extra room for a...

What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

I’m so glad LW is still around! Sadly too many small artisan businesses (of all kinds) just don’t survive.

What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

Here is a cool juxtaposition: I found an old photo from 1996 when I visited the U.K. and was wearing my first Lost Worlds jacket, an A-2. I’m in the British War Museum where they had the tail section of Rudolf Hess’ Me110 on display (the plane he flew from Germany to Scotland in 1941 when he...

His ears are cold, but the rest of him looks pretty cool

USN Deck Jackets period / repop

Very interesting 1960’s photos of Navy icebreaker USS ATKA doing a resupply of some base in Antarctica. Among the clothing worn are some A-2 deck jackets and the Chief in his khaki uniform (with CPO cap!) riding a landing craft on the way ashore.

    Famous People in Flight Jackets

Pilot of HMX-1 Marine Helicopter Squadron in G-1 (@Deacon211 I would love to hear your thoughts on this particular look).

USN Deck Jackets period / repop

Unfortunately I can only be sure (reasonably sure) that the photo of USS THRESHER shows her commanding officer, LCDR John Harvey. He took command in Jan. 1963 (relieving former CO, Commander Dean Axene) just 3 months before her tragic sinking.

USN Deck Jackets period / repop

@Peacoat, Brashear just has the usual laser focus on the upcoming underwater job. The tender takes care of all the hardware and connections (the grunt work), the diver is free to worry about the dive job ahead. I’ve known a lot of divers and afew SEAL’s from my 26 years in the Navy. They all...

Dive tender is wearing early model A-2 deck jacket; diver is Navy master deep-sea diver Carl Brashear.

    Aero damage

Looks like dry rot (red rot) to me. When the oils in leather evaporate the leather fibers dry out and break down/crack, resulting in the leather dry rot condition. You see this on lots of very old, vintage leather that hasn’t been well cared for or stored properly. The Aero label and interior...

What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

Hey @Tom71 thanks! Sincerely. After seeing all the great LW black Horsehide MC jackets posted recently, I was stoked to get my Rigger. Totally thrilled with the jacket, the buying experience was a breeze (3 or 4 e-mails to Stu) and now, best of all, the upcoming break-in process! Couldn’t be...

Mexico made Gibson Barnes G-1 quality?

G&B custom-made the G-1 for 6’ 4” actor David James Elliot on the tv show “JAG”. I actually bought one of the jackets (several were made during the years the show ran and then were sold off/given away after production ceased). Size label reads “44 Made to measure”. The sleeves measure 28.5”...
