Not really a “half-belt” but a cool jacket nevertheless; “The Natural”, the movie about the fictional baseball team N.Y. Knights and their slugger Roy Hobbs, takes place in 1939 (my all-time favorite baseball film).
I’ve been wearing my LW Rigger every day; it’s been one week since the arrival and she’s breaking in nicely. The first creases and wrinkles are always cool to see. The LW Horsehide is like a blank canvas that you have to decorate with your own unique “art” as you wear it.
Picked up this awesome 1950’s Champ from @markhassler and couldn’t be happier! It’s a perfect match for Bogey’s fedora in “The Treasure of the Sierra Madre” (all it needs is that bullet hole/rat bite at the top!)
Looks like a bunch of A-1 jackets? Photo states it’s 1930; I believe Spaulding Sporting Goods did make leather jackets back in the 1930’s so perhaps they had some commercial copy of the military A-1 and sold them to civilians and sports teams?
@60foot6 here’s a US A G-1 on eBay (I just did a quick search) and you can see the overall look of the jacket and some detail of the knit cuffs.
I’ve ordered from these guys in the past and they can customize the jacket any way you want. Extra inside pockets. Different liner. Different cuffs...
Hey there @Deacon211, I don’t have one of their G-1’s but I do have their seal goatskin G-8. It’s a well made jacket and it’s much better “in the flesh” than their website pics.
Excellent workmanship and good quality leather.
I’ve seen some US A G-1’s for sale on eBay and the updated high res...
You can try US Authentic (Flightjacket.com).
Very nice quality for about the same price as a G&B jacket, and they have tall sizes (and can customize it anyway you’d like).
Thanks @seres and @Tom71 and everyone else who congratulated me on both my new Rigger jacket and my 30 years as a captain. It’s been quite a “ride” as they say (no pun intended!). I was 23 years old when I first took a job as a ferryboat captain, thinking I’d be doing that for a year or 2 and...
Lost Worlds Rigger, brand new, fresh out of the box. 4oz Horsehide. To commemorate 30 years as a ferryboat captain, I wanted to treat myself so I ordered this Rigger (I’ve been eyeballing this model on the LW website for afew years now).
I’ll do a full review soon (in a separate thread). Just...
PayPal isn’t for everyone. I mailed Mark a check and he has mailed me the hat I chose; great communication at all times. And he sent a tracking number for the package as soon as it was posted.
@markhassler seems like a good guy
Great jackets! I agree with @HoosierDaddy, definitely keep the name tags (and of course the squadron patches!) affixed to the jackets. It’s a part of the history of both the jacket and the person who owned it.
Back to my “lucky” M-422 to ride out that hellacious storm that hit NYC. 50-70mph winds, torrential rain, waves tossing the vessel around like a toy! It was a very LONG day!
This jacket is a Willis&Geiger M-422 repro with super thick & grainy goatskin that repelled the wind-driven rain...
Initially they blamed a faulty pipe weld (some reports are still classified) but new theories revolve around electrical failure of the coolant pumps.
Back in 1963 they did not want to assume (or publicize) that there was any fault with the sub’s reactor or engineering design.
@Peacoat the loss...
Collection of deck jackets seen worn by crew on the conning tower of ill-fated sub USS THRESHER (jackets appear to have official USS THRESHER patches sewn on the chest)
