The lining of A-2 Winter Jackets is a fleece made of 100% Nylon. The main fabric is made of 50% Cotton and 50% Nylon (just like M-65 from 1966 and after). The advantages: Less heavy, quicker drying, easy laundry (machine washing at 120 - 140° F, tumble dryer), higher durability of the insulation...
Thomas original A-2 is a good example for jackets pits fitting to the natural pits.
I still contemplate about the statement that military garments are generally made to fit bigger to fit the average build. That is true, but the military was always after a good appearance of their troops, so even...
Here I agree with your tailor. It's weird. Especially when you compare it to IH's take on the N-1 where they have done a great job to "fashionize" the fit.
I think, you and most people here are right. It looks wrong.
If it was a cheap grab, I would wash it, wear it, wash it until it molds to your shape. But this is not a cheap grab and it should fit you right from the start.
With respect, I don't agree with your tailor. The sleeves are too tight...
After I had done quite some research to find out why the sizing of N-1 Jackets is sometimes a task on it's own and why modern replicas can look so much different on us than what we use to see in old pictures from Navy personnel wearing these jackets, I thought I'd share some insights here...
Somewhere I read that it is the sharp cut ends of hair that cause the itch. So maybe the grade of pilling has to do something with how itchy it is. When it is less curled, or the single hair is thicker and stiffer, bending less when touching our skin, more "sharp ends" can cut into your skin...
It reminds me of some H&M jackets I once bought, where the sleeves were attached in an angle, that made the jacket look fantastic but once you put it on, you could only walk around like Eddie in Piece Of Mind.
And even if it was comfortable, alone that it does not look comfortable would make me hesitant to wear it. Everybody must think : how the hell can this guy tie his shoe laces?
thanks! That specific jacket had shrunk a little in torso and sleeves width after the initial wash and I have gained a little since. Now it's a snug fit with only a light shirt underneath. I had ordered a second blue one shortly after, but this had shed fibers like mad. But it seemed to have...
don't know... but I see how the front part is pulled in folds towards the pits and the shoulder corners riding up when he tries to put his hands into the pockets of this jacket (on the other hand most leather jackets slightly pull up when one lifts his arms). Can't help but thinking it's too...
Another pair of interesting photos of men wearing US Deck Jackets, with a surprise.
This photo is said to show five German U550 crew members who had been saved from the sea after the sinking of their Uboot, on Bord USS Joyce, 1944. From the hairstyles and beard styles this is plausible. They...
Will, I have a navy blue Bronson N-1, which is too snug for me since I gained. It is size 40. It fits me, 6'2' and 172 lbs with a T-shirt or light sweater. I would consider it as a size small when you want it loose fitting or size M when you want it more slim fitting. Can take measurements, if...
I found some nice Original WWII photos, which were completely unknown to me until recently (and I have searched the internet often times for years, still seem to have overlooked those). All types of 1940s N-1s are seen, from Zip to Hook, from Blue to Olive-"Khaki", from fur lined cuff to...
They all look good on you!
Almost surprises me how good the Pike Brothers looks on you.
Had you also altered the sleeve width at your Pike Brothers? If so, did they manage to get the seams like they were before, don't know how it is called, but I mean those two parallel rows)? My Pike Brothers...
A bit late, but I guess it's a liner for the M-42 Parka reversible, buttoned, worn by the 10th Mountain, the Anorak style Parka reversible Ski had a similar pile liner without front opening of course.
