Fantastic jacket. My GW is just one of my absolute go-to's. I've got another on order, an Aero depot redye, and hopefully before too long I'll be good to go - cash is going to more pressing projects, so I'm delaying pulling the trigger at the moment.
I would recommend wiping the whole thing over with water and wearing it while letting it dry. It'll help with shaping it to your body shape but also give an all over 'water mark', which means you don't have to contend with the mottling that you'll get. Also, just brace yourself for the day you...
A B-6 might be more suitable. It's a slightly slimmer fit and you can pull in the cinch tapes to your taste. Personally, I think the Irvin is the coolest of all the sheepskins and looks best, and tend to be warmest, worn a size up, which will give you a bit of extra lengh. Aero can add a bit...
Nice catch! This is a jacket I've hummed and hawed over a couple of times and never quite bit the bullet on - first time, I ended up with a Bootlegger instead, the second it was a Wayfarer. Still on my list, perhaps in blackened brown...
This looks a lot like my old Aero buffalo skin A-2 - certainly, the colour of the lining and badge would suggest it. 1980s Aero A-2s are rare as hen's teeth and are built like tanks. I only parted with mine to fund my Good Wear.
I've tried various ones at the Aero factory and even though I love the D-pocket style, they just don't suit me. I've got a Bootlegger, so I don't think it's the cross-zip style, so I suspect black's too hard a colour for me - I've got v dark seal jackets, but it's a less severe look than black...
That looks like the battered tan. Looks rather fine. I've given up on the idea of a black biker jacket but I could get behind that D-pocket in the tan.
DD said on the Other Place that he'd given up the game. I don't think anyone was *really* surprised, as his stuff was so hit-and-miss and the post-sale care pretty ropy at best. Personally, I was much more disappointed when Arial Star gave up, as they were pursuing something interesting, civvy...
I think it's a fine, flexible fit. Short A-2s can look v cool, but only if you wear high-waist jeans all the time or you're a Japanese student (their jackets barely scrape the top of their hipster jeans, but still look pretty cool). As it is, look at WWII period photos and you'll see that there...
It was a standard size 36 in cordovan horse that I bought a few years ago - it was from the stolen stock sale. Only wore it a few times, so I was delighted to get my money back.
The opposite is the case here, the weather is finally beginning to shift in the right direction and I can look at pulling out the half-belt and lighter jackets. *punches air* I'm so sick of this endless, wet winter.
Generally, I would say with your first jacket, Aero or whatever, go for something that is flexible and wearable that fits you well. I bought a Long Half-Belt in brown FQHH, didn't mess around with the design, and it's still one of my main go to jackets when I'm heading out the door and it looks...
You could probably have buttons but the Sunburst is it's a completely different jacket from the Aeromarine, so I think you'd have to look at perhaps the Sea Biscuit collar, or perhaps look to the Hooch Hauler, which is a Bootlegger with buttons and a Sunburst back.
I picked up a pair of 1962 LVC 14oz jeans for £65 new on eBay. Very similar, I think, to the 54 cut. Good solid pair of jeans with mid-rise and a straight leg.
The ANJ-4 is considerably thicker, it was meant for high altitude US bomber crews. The Irvin is still substantial, but it's definitely not as thick - it's lighter and much more flexible in terms of the amount of wear you'd get. You can unzip it down to the belt, play around with the sleeve zips...
I would go with the Irvin. It's the most flexible of the three. I've owned an ANJ-4 and had to trade it in as I just didn't get enough wear out of it. I live in Glasgow, in the Scottish Central Belt, and our winter temperatures are roughly the same as yours. The sheepskin on the ANJ is so deep...
