That’s wise decision!! I always look at the ‘replace-ability’ of a jacket - which is why I didn’t think twice of selling my HWM - I could always, always easily buy another HWM in the future if I want to. But a custom 5oz weight LW HH jacket? No way I’m going to sell it if it fits me. It would be...
Thank you that’s sound advice for the Vanson Enfield!
Do I recall you have a super heavy and tough CHP? Can’t remember if it’s aero or LW. Well if you ever want to move it on - PM me!
That West Ride CHP - well I’ll be dreaming of its fluffy collar!
Not a fan of bullhide though. I can’t explain why just prefer smooth finish.
I was also looking for a JL super goat for a long time but they just don’t come up for sale.
I have a white CR bought from classified here. It’s Johnson Leathers and the cut is as if tailored for my measurements. Fits very well. It’s boring cowhide but man at 2mm thickness and 6lb weight (for a CR that’s heavy)! My wife keeps asking me to sell it. I considered that because I don’t get...
@Canuck Panda you have an envious collection - even just for aero jackets!!
As someone nearing 50 years old, I’ve set myself a goal of wearing the hell out two jackets for the next 10 years. My KoTR is a keeper - I really wanted to buy a Daytona in black CXL HH which is new and for £900 on aero...
Love the brown CXL SH jacket! The other two jackets are cool too but agree the stock cut didn’t fit you.
Oh I forgot to mention - I went through a long process of considering different hides for my KoTR jacket - I was informed by the very helpful aero team that for this particular style (cross...
That hooch is a beauty!
I love CXL too and I like it heavy and thick! Same goes with belts - I have a 7mm Samurai belt and a 12mm custom Latigo ‘gun belt thickness but dress belt width).
It may be just me!
I’d compare CXL to what we in the UK call stirrup leather or harness leather elsewhere - it is tanned then hot stuffed with wax and fats until saturation. The purpose is weather proof and extremely hard wearing
To me a leather jacket is primarily a functional piece of clothing - in wet and windy UK weather - CXL is a must have.
For social occasions I have my wool jackets and coats, and for cold weather I have my Canada Goose.
Now since we also touched on vintage Vanson HH on this thread - imagine...
@Peter Mackin this is the jacket that I bought and currently enroute to UK - https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/fs-42-vanson-enfield-teacore-horsehide-jacket-riri-zipper.116386/
Did you get it in HH? If you’re willing to put in the time and effort to break it in, it would be very rewarding in the end. Take a look at the transformation of this ‘cardboard’ J-106: https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/aero-natural-cxl-hh-j-106-kotr-indian-mix-biker-jacket.97528/

Yes mate Vanson used to offer heavy HH (I vaguely recall Horween CXL but others can correct me). Rumors have it that Vanson has the best cut and couple that with a heavy HH I just have to experience it! I got it from a fellow lounger here
Last year I bought a 2nd hand black HWM in 40 that was stock and fully broken in. I sold it cos it was too light for my liking especially given it was CXL SH - at just 2.5KG or 5.5lb. I just sold it and used the funds to buy a Vanson Enfield 42 in black HH (!!) which I haven’t received but chest...
