@Marc mndt I do love the look of the black core Buco, that's really beautiful - it's showing great grain, and plenty of wrinkles, creases and character.
Maybe that's partly what I meant from the outset...hmmmm, maybe I could rephrase the question to whether any of today's jackets will be worn...
@Marc mndt I understand your point about the Indigo Y'2 but I think I'd still prefer this than the greying of a Vanson along the scuffs - this dye is obviously designed to do this and it's definitely a look, but I hear where you're coming from.
But that raises the question about the aging of...
I don't mid teacore but too much of a good thing can be too much. I don't like how Vanson's go grey along the scuffs, @dudewuttheheck I've seen your video about your C2 and I remember you not being a fan of that either.
dudewuttheck, what do you attribute the Buco's preservation to?
Was it barely worn? Worn carefully? Is the leather of a different quality than today and doesn't show the same kind of wear?
On a call with Vanson recently they indicated that today's leather is tanned differently than decades...
I appreciate the nuance between heavily worn and vintage - but the point I'm making is that during those decades between 1930 and 1960 the likelihood of people having multiple jackets in rotation isn't what it is today.
Money and consumption were different back then for the majority of people...
Hope you're all looking at the start of a good day, or you're halfway through one now depending on where you live.
I find myself thinking about collecting on a fairly regular basis. I'd love to be a one watch, one jacket kinda guy, but I can't seem to stop poking around and looking for the...
Just looked at the 614HH, beautiful jacket, and I like the one piece back with the action pleats and side tabs. Do you own one? Is it stiff from new? Also, Schott doesn't give dimensions on the page, do they run true to size?
I am a skinny dude, that's true. I'm not terribly big, which is why I like jackets that fit closer to the body - anything slightly large feels uncomfortable to me, as if I'm wearing a friend's jacket that doesn't fit. I'd rather have it be slightly tight than slightly too big.
Still, I want...
Y'2 certainly doesn't get the love that Freewheelers, RMC, and The Flathead do, but they seem a quality brand and I like their patterns. The Shop Vancouver is keen on them and it's been fun watching TJ's videos on the various models.
As I mentioned above, I'm also interested in a Vanson C2 or...
You raise a good point and the primary reason that I'm on the Y'2 train is simply that I got a ridiculously good deal on the D-pocket and I actually really enjoy the leather. The horsehide is thick but soft and it's got a nice feel.
As such, I've been thinking about a new CR and when I saw the...
Hi everyone,
Does anyone here have firsthand experience with a Y'2 HR-41 Single Riders vintage horsehide jacket? I'm contemplating this piece but I don't know if I need a 36 or a 38.
Pursuant to my post last weekend about being confounded by sizing I'm thinking 38. My Y'2 Double Riders has...
I've emailed him three times about various things and his responses are always in ALL CAPS and the whole cadence of his writing style is very much take it or leave it. I was hoping to visit his shop at some point but I get the feeling that's not allowed.
He makes the Strada CR with olive green...
There's a man in Austin, Texas named Lee Miller who is widely considered the best living cowboy boot maker in the world. Key to his success is his unbelievable understanding of how to create a last - he takes copious measurements, watches someone walk, looks at their heels and arches and then...
I really don't know how Vanson's pattern-making work or how their ease through the chest is calculated. I did the same thing, I added 38 and 5 but was told that it was more complicated than that - I pressed but the person I was speaking to couldn't offer me an answer.
I think the C2 is terrific...
What I mean is that I have a 38-inch chest measured across the highest point with a tailor's tape measure. I just divided the number to get P2P of 19-inches, perhaps the wrong way to have expressed it.
Thank you everyone, I appreciate you all taking the time to write - and your points are all solid. @El Marro I've spoken with Vanson a few times about fit and they tell me the same thing, that shoulder measurements are irrelevant, which I don't understand. If it doesn't fit the shoulders you'll...
