Your signature cocktail.

I also find it more than a little disconcerting that so many young bartenders are unknowledgeable when it comes to making this cocktail.
Not much on cocktails myself but there are certain cities, certain bars where handcrafted cocktails are the speciality of the younger crowd. And they have it down.

When I'm in the city I often stop at one to try a rare or new Whiskey. They claim they have over 200 brands on hand.

Our go to is the good ol' Gin & Tonic. After a day on the road with our motorhome we celebrate with our lawn chairs and a G&T, specializing in cheap gin and expensive tonic. Right now we have a huge jug of Kirkland brand gin that is so big my wife, the bartender,
has to pour using two hands as it does not come with a handle.

When I was younger, growing up in Texas, I loved a good Margarita. I liked both frozen and on the rocks and I always loved the salt. However, now that I'm a little older, I really like an Old Fashioned. I think I had my first one when I was in the Army, but I don't remember for sure.

I’m not much of a drinker, but I love a good Cuba Libre. We make a version with Dr. Pepper instead of Coke that’s pretty good. Fresh lime is key.

Beyond that, I like mojitos, and I can’t think of any other cocktails that I’ve even tried.

View attachment 220295 View attachment 220298 I love a well made classic Daiquiri.
Freshly squeezed lemon juice, sugar syrup (homemade) and a good rum. The "flor de cana" is my favorite rum for Daiquiris.

A strong second here on Flor de Caña (though I prefer the 7 year). First came across it while backpacking in rural Nicaragua, where ice wasn't available - you could have a cold Toña beer, or this, neat with a wedge of lime. Fantastic dark rum, I'd argue it rivals Havana Club [contraband here in the USA], and you can often find it at a decent price - say, $23 including tax - at Latino neighborhood liquor stores around Chicago. A hot weather favorite.

Whiskey Sour here

6cl nice barrel proof Whiskey like WT Rare Breed or Blanton‘s SFTB
2cl seabuckthorn liqueur instead of plain syrup
2cl lime juice
NO egg white
Ice

That is it.

Cheers

In Chicago, definitely, but we also have a significant population of first, second, and third generation Mexican-Americans (at least 800,000 out of a total population of 2.7 million). In addition to your standard Margarita and its connoisseur variants available at any proper bar, many more informal neighborhood Mexican restaurants with liquor licenses will offer the quick-and-dirty "Paloma" ('dove') - which is simply a sweet grapefruit-flavored soda known as 'Squirt' with a shot of tequila in it & a squeeze of lime.
