Babies born today will have a life expectancy of around 200 years, making them effectively immortal, because the state of medicine 200 years from now is unimaginable. 200 years ago medicine was little better than medieval. We'd better raise the new generation better than the last few, because they'll be around forever.

Two weeks ago I was at my high school class's 50th reunion. For us, that would have been the class of 1915 coming to town to celebrate.

When I was a kid, there were so many milestone birthdays, 6, 12, 13,15, 18, and of course 21! Then they start getting fewer, 30 and 50 I guise. Now, there are only two left that I can think of, 65, which I will most likely make with ease and 100, which I most likely wont make!

That reminds me, when I was young, I knew lots of people born in the 19th century! My Grandparents, lots of neighbors, they were every where. Now there are only two people in the entire world that are verified to have been born before 1900!

What youngsters call "old school" was current when I might have been fairly described as middle-aged.

I shared a roof, for part of 1968, with a relative by marriage who was born in 1870.

My siblings and many of my friends going back to childhood are now grandparents.

My dear old mom, who was recently widowed for the second time, is a great-grandmother -- seven boys and one girl.

Every trip up the step ladder, every bag of garbage taken out, reminds me of how much easier these little tasks used to be. My physical movements are usually accompanied by sound effects.

Nah, she was just a loudmouthed, opinionated woman with no use for the appointed authorities. Runs in the family.

My thought of grandparents is people who listened to Big Band music and fought in WWII. Now, my parents, born in 1959 and 65, respectively, are grandparents.

Many times, when I tell kids, "ask your parents, about _____, they'll know what I'm talking about." They won't because the stuff I'm talking about was probably already stodgy and outdated by the time their parents' parents were kids.
