Your favorite Scotch? Your Favorite liquor in general?

anon`

One Too Many
One can usually find at least one bottle each from the Balvenie and Glenmorangie in my little makeshift bar, inasmuch as Scotch is concerned. Others are worthy, but often only purchased when out and about.

Other staples include my two favourite liqueurs: Cointreau and Grand Marnier, and a cognac of some sort (though I can't claim to be loyal to any one brand), and tawny port as well, though I happen to be out at the moment.

Everything else I keep is used for mixing cocktails and not necessarily worthy of name recognition, with the notable exception of Luxardo. I rarely get the urge to drink it by itself, but this is non-negotiable as an absolutely necessary ingredient in a Casablanca!

I used to hate whisky until going on a trip to the Giants Causeway. There I was lured in to the Bushmills distillery for a tour, and volunteered for a whisky tasting session (despite the fact I didn't like whisky, I never turn down the chance of free booze). I was introduced to various different malts, and the differences in taste were pointed out and explained, and by the end of the tour, I was a total convert! I do prefer the peatier Scotch to the Irish whiskeys; my favouritre, along with many loungers it seems, being the deliciously smoky Laphroig, with Talisker coming second, and just to be different, the not-at-all peaty Bunnahabhain bringing up the rear. I do enjoy a Bushmills 12 though, as my drinks cabinet will testify.

But, being from a Maritime family, my spirit of choice would have to be Woods 100 rum, drunk neat, or Pussers on the rare occasion I'm out of Woods. I was going to mention the horribly-expensive ($160 a bottle) vodka I have in the freezer -I'm on my second bottle now!- but despite (or because of) the fact I was making Martinis with it just last night, I've forgotten the name!

I just discovered an Islay that has become a favourite - Finlaggan Reserve. It is smoky and peaty like any Islay, but has this incredible chocolately creaminess about it. inever thought I would describe a Scotch as creamy, let alone in a good way, but there you have it. It is an incredible value as well.

Ardneg, Laphroaig and Talisker are all great cold winter sitting-by-the-fire whiskies

For a lighter, sweeter whisky, I like Glenmorangie Port or Burgundy finish.

I do like having a bottle of the 'good stuff' around at any given time, for special guests and toasting occasions - My current one is a private bottling of a 28 year old Auchentoshan. and before that was a 1971 Bowmore and 1968 Knockandu. The 28 yr Auchentoshan is probably the finest whisky I have ever had - even better than the bottle of 50 year old that I got my grandmother for Christmas last year. It is near perfection in Scotch.

OK, Cooper, Where did you find that bottle of 28 Year Old Auchentoshan? This is hands-down my favorite single malt even if I have to go to Canada to find it.

Ah, well, I need another bottle of Glenfiddich Malt Whiskey Liqueur soon anyway.

Trader Joe's has Glenfiddich for very reasonable prices. The one near me usually carried the burgundy cask one ... mmmm.

So that is what that flavoring is. No thanks.
I'll stick to Scotch and Irish Whisky. Tullamore Dew anyone? :cheers1::D

"I drink scotch whiskey all night long ... and die behind the wheel. They got a name for the winners in the world -- I want a name when I lose. They call Alabama the Crimson Tide -- CALL ME DEACON BLUES." -- from your favorite from the 70s -- STEELY DAN.

I will warn you up front that it is not faint of wallet, but here goes - there is a liquor store that specialises in whisky and wine here in Calgary that apparently purchased a whole cask of 28 year Auchentoshan and paid to have it bottled. I will send you the link to the store if you like and they might be able to ship you a bottle. It is significant enough to them that if you buy a bottle, you get your name on a plaque that commemorates the bottling. They only got 156 bottles from the hogshead, and I think around half remain.

Here is the link to the whisky itself and here is the store's main site.

If you are interested in a bottle and cannot get them to ship to you, I might be able to help you out a bit.

If you do get a bottle, tell them that the owner of bottle #71 recommended it!

Gentleman Jack for me

Straight from the fridge, no ice, no frills, just pure pleasure in a glass.

I'm a gin girl myself. Nothing better than an icy cold Gin & Tonic for me.
I think Hendrick's is the best small batch gin I've ever had--so smooth with a hint of cucumber. I was thrilled to find Hendrick's buried down on the bottom shelf of Trader Joe's!

Is it 5 o'clock yet?!

You know you love them. I saw that tattoo you try to hide behind the flashy vintage snap cufflinks. The Steely Dan one. Right on your wrist. DONALD FAGAN AND WALTER BECKER with a heart around it.

Trader Joe's seems to have the deals!

No, it was 1:54 when you posted that. But it's almost 6 now. Juniper o'clock ...

I keep a link on my desktop that shows times around the world, just so I know that it's always 5 o'clock somewhere!
(You know it's a tough day when I say, "It's 5 o'clock in Moscow! Cocktail hour!")
Juniper o'clock--I like that!
