Ok girls, I think I finally found one I like! Sally Hansen's Cherry Nice.
http://store.facevaluesonline.com/074170307726.html

I don't polish my nails very often because it never stays on more than a day without chipping on my natural nails. But I always have my tootsies done.

However, I hate having to change polish just because I've got pink piggies and want to wear a red dress... and viceversa!

So what are your favorite pink/red shades that go with both red and pink garments?

I'm loving this one so far.. I 've held it up to my red gingham dress, a red t-shirt, a pink zenia, a yellow dress with pink flowers, and a teal dress with a rather coraly/pink flower and it goes with all of them, wooooohoooo! Now if I could only find the perfect matching lip color. Wonder if SH makes one?

Nikki

A favorite for me is Revlons Cherries in the Snow. I wear that with a lot of colours. I am slowly going through my polishes and as i waer one I remove it from the box so wear a different colour next time. I have so many reds I made my self promise I won't buy any more till I use everyone I have.............we'll see how long that lasts :) :) . Just looking through I noticed Rasin Rage from Revlon is a pretty reddish/pink too.

Nyc big apple red

NYC big apple red is the only one I have found that I have liked. Its not too magenta and is just brown enough to go with most of my lipsticks.

I'm with you, Goldwyn Girl! That is one of my favorite colors. Pink enough to go with pinks, Red enough to go with reds. It doesn't tend to clash! :)

to even talk about it makes my heart ache...

OPI made a color a few years ago - one in their operatic collection - called 'La Boheme.'

it
was
my
perfect
color.

and now it's gone, and there is no more.
i even got a few bottles from a OPI back-color site that stocks discontinued colors, but of course those are never the same. they all sit in their bottles so long in a warehouse and inevitable alter from poor storage conditions or just sheerly age.

now i console myself with OPI Edin-burgundy, which is a lovely blue-red, but how i long and weep for 'La Boheme.'

My favorite red nail polish combo is Royal Red (Wet 'n Wild) with Firecracker (Revlon - glittery red!) over the top. The sparkle of Firecracker reminds me of Dorothy's ruby slippers. :)

It could go with pink, also.

(Just a thought.)

Right now I'm using Finger Paints "Expressionist Red" but I'm looking for an alternative from a more natural brand that doesn't use formaldehyde and such...however, the natural brands I've seen don't carry any true reds -- they're all orangey! The search continues...

Is the brand, Sinful still around? I haven't seen it in a while, but it said "Formaldehyde and Toluene Free" on the back of the bottle.

A few years ago they had all kinds of colors!

Russet Flame by Rimmel. Lycra based so it's TOUGH and femme.

Ooh, I'll look! I haven't heard of it, but there HAS to be a safe brand out there with a good variety...

From the OPI web site:http://www.opi.com/faq.asp

Beginning in Spring 2006, OPI eliminated DBP (dibutyl phthalate) from all Nail Lacquers, Nail Treatments, and Nail Hardeners it manufactures. Beginning in January 2007, OPI eliminated toluene from all Nail Lacquers it manufactures. Toluene-free formulas have been approved for all of our Nail Treatment and Nail Hardener products; some of these formulas are already being manufactured, and the others will be on the market in the next few months.

Does OPI Nail Lacquer contain formaldehyde as an ingredient?

No.

So if its only those two that you are worried about ingredients wise.......and they don't test on animals either...

Revlon's Raven Red is my favorite but it does not last long on natural nails. I must try some of the Rimmel polish mentioned that has Lycra in it. Perhaps that would last a few days longer. What I really need is a maid to do the cleaning up and a secretary to do my typing. My polish would last forever!

Hi- I'm a newbie here, but a makeup artist in the film/fashion biz and I have a nice lil' tip for you.
I do not know if you may have a little "La Boheme" left- maybe a little at the bottom- maybe you saved the bottle. for sentimental value? (heh- I do that)

There is a company called Giella- they are a custom line who specializes in recreating colors long lost- matching colors to clothing- creating custom colors- (I've heard crazy stories of little old ladies bringing in flamingo pink ball gowns and wanting nail polish to match- and they do it!)
I wasn't entirely convinced because "custom blending" is nothing new- and I'm quite a makeup blender myself- but- brought in an old old old 1930s Tangee lipstick color (that was like.... disintegrating) that they also made for me- and it was perfect.

If you cannot get to new york city- you can mail it to them. A great deal of their business is like this. You can even stripe a bit of the polish on a piece of tape, put it inside a greeting card, and send it over for 41 cents. (I've done that when I'm on location)
I think they charge around $25.00- but its well worth it. They are the best blenders in the biz.
as a MUA- I swoon and cry over colors discountinued all the time- so I feel your pain- anyways- just thought I'd put it out there for you.

Nail Polish

A nice economical shade- would probably be this Uber Cheap line called "NIKKA"
the shade is "Scarlet"
I think it retails for 1.99. I would recommend several of these- since you can buy every shade of red they offer for around the cost of 1 OPI color (a brand that doesn't raelly impress me) and they really are quite nice. (nice pinks too- bright magentas, 40s hued corals)
of the super cheaps- like NY color, Color Club, Wet N Wild- I think its the best- If you can find it- check it out- they also have really nice highly pigmented lipsticks.

My favorite higher end polish brand would be Creative. It has nice "weight" to it, and the brush allows for ease in application (which is important for a non nail-sy person like myself)
Candy Apple is a gorgeous shade of pinky red
Company Red is also nice.

Delux Beauty's "Star Daisy" is also very pretty- (and in a retro styled bottle!)
