This made me chuckle. The dryer thing is so American. I'm currently helping 20 American families move to Dresden in Germany and the first thing anyone asks me is "do the apartments have dryers there?"

My answer of "no" is oft greeted with shock and then despair.

I have a dryer in London and I've never used it - it just came with the flat.

If you still go to church and read your Bible because you like it.
If you still watch for Robins to start getting your garden ready.
If you still like to have your honeys "supper" on the table.
You wouldn't be caught dead out shopping without makeup on.
You know how to sew.
You know which tools to hand honey when he is working on stuff. (Phillips, Flathead, Level, etc. 2x4, 2x6 and can help hold stuff up if necessary.
You know how to cook real food from scratch including a mean pot of beans.
If you hang around with all the other atavist on the FL.
If you adore LizzieMaine and love to read her wisdom.
If you feel sorry for those who have never heard a ball game on an old fashioned transistor radio.
If you love to pick up vintage stuff and preserve it and clean it up and sell it for all the other atavist will have it for the future.

fftopic: I've never had a dryer either, although I'm not an atavist. The problem with line drying though, is that we have about 4 days a year when it's nice enough outside! Cue lots of drying clothes inside the house, making my walls all mouldy! lol

I just can't bring myself to use the dryer, its so very bad for the environment that I get guilt just thinking about it. I mean - it takes hours to dry a load of clothing when you can just leave it overnight on a clothes horse and its dry by morning anyway.

I can kind of understand it if someone has a large family.

Word. We never dry our clothes because 1. my husbad is a Brit and he never dried his clothes, and 2. it's bad for your clothes -- makes them shrink and stretch out faster. We use the clothes horse and a heater. Dry by morning!

lol ME! I just feel like I'm missing something when I work from one. And don't even get me started on "modern vintage" sewing patterns! I don't think I've made one yet that didn't confuse me and/or come out way too BIG! Grrr. I've hated them all so far.

I wouldnt agree with that, at all. But what do I know. I think the difference is newer patterns were meant to be cut through (hence the stopping of individually cut out pieces for the cheaper one tissue sheet) where as older patterns were designed to be traced more often than not.

But I digress...
