In the last few weeks, there has been many a radio station in the UK celebrating 50 years of bridge Over Troubled Water. Fifty years!
View attachment 219021
‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ went to number one in ten countries and was the best-selling album of the 1970’s, bringing home six Grammy Awards including Album of the Year and Best Engineered Recording.

The title track also won the Grammy for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Contemporary Song of the Year, and the Instrumental Arrangement of the Year in 1971.

The album has been certified 8x Platinum by the RIAA and has sold an estimated 25 million copies worldwide.
Just an aside....nice moustache on Garfunkel....lol

When the first Beatle turns 80. And you remember when he was in his thirties.

Bless 'im, Ringo was (any talent disparity aside - though I'll take his songwriting contribution to the Beatles over Harrisons - bar Piggies - eight days a week) truly the Keef of the Beatles, in that he was never the pretty one, but he's grown into his looks in a way that has ultimately aged better than the others.

I have a much earlier post in this thread to the effect "...when you live long enough that Ringo Starr is the best looking Beatle".

Other observation: If there were a bio-pic of Paul McCartney made today, his current self would be portrayed by Angela Landsbury...

While I enjoy Ringo's two solo, one threesome and one foursome credits (Octopus's Garden, Don't Pass Me By, What Goes On and Flying respectively), I would have to disagree that he was the inferior contributor musically!

Fun fact most fans are not aware of. In addition to the fact the Beatles' rhythm section survives, they are both of them left handed (most folks aware of Macca being a lefty owing to the obviousness of his bass and guitar position). Sir Richard does, however, and always has, played with a right-handed drum kit, part of his unique sound.

Irnoic, as we southpaws on average dieseven years earlier than dextrous types...

I dunno, in my more uncharitable moods, the more I knowe about John Lennon, the more I tend to feel Chapman had a point.

Crap I first heard of him when he was in his mid twenties then......he is looking good though. We could start a pool taking bets on who will be the last Beatle standing.
A few years ago, I put this photo up on some thread on The Lounge, can't remember which one though. At the time, Ringo was 76, his younger son Jason was 48.
Ringo looking good, at 80, and not a single silver hair, shame Jason got all his tonsorial genes from his mother.

On our local radio today I heard that Keith Richard, who quit smoking after a lifetime of indulging in the tobacco infusion, said that for every cigarette he smoked the Lord docked one hour of his life and donated it to Sir Cliff Richard. The later also turns 80 later this year.

For 80 Ringo looks great!
I had a getting old moment this week: where are my glasses at and then I realized that I was actually wearing them. Not on top of my head, either...
Isn't that irritating? Times I have hunted for the odd sock. One sock is in my hand the other is on my foot yet I'm still looking for the sock. I'm definitely getting ever closer to the funny farm.
