When the doctor with whom you first registered, told you that you are her last patient before she goes off on maternity leave. You congratulate her, wish her well and a safe delivery. I saw her baby bump recently, a big, strapping, six foot graduate, who would make a fine Rugby player. What happened?

An old girlfriend (a real heartbreaker, that one) was an avid outdoorswoman — not huntin’ and fishing’, but hiking and camping in the wilderness. She’d have us take the car to the very end of the unimproved roads and then set out on foot from there, up the mountainsides or along the creeks or whatever it was that unspoiled nature had to offer.

As it turns out, you can indeed camp more or less comfortably in the snow, on a mountain, in the dead of winter, provided you have the right equipment. I can’t say her enthusiasm for such activities rubbed off on me, but I can’t say I wouldn’t do it again, either. I acknowledge there’s something to be said for it.

I guess the more you get old the more you appreciate hiking and camping in the wilderness, I mean all this peace and quiet, minimum civilization, just a tent (does RV counts?), some tools, survival kit (like this just to be sure) and some sausages on an open fire.

Looking at a FB post of someone's grandmother's personal diary which was written in shorthand. The Original Poster wanted to know if anyone could translate it. Reading the comments, there are people alive today who have never HEARD of shorthand and were calling it "an alien language." I went to HS between 1989 and 1993 and shorthand was still a class you could take. I understand shorthand isn't a thing anymore for the most part, but geez! I just find it odd people are unaware of things that happened before they were born.

Used to be askill taught in the UK to both asipring secretaries and journalists. I know a few older journos who use it now, but more recently they've never heard of it - guess that's down to the rise of easy voice recording...

No joke:
Today, I was short-hiking the first time with a hiking stick, because I know, it's not healthy without all the time. Was nice! The first kilometers it was unfamiliar, but then I got my rhythm and felt okay.

You must not be that old yet to say that. Trust me that, when you get old enough, your body complains mightily if you do much hiking and your back certainly won't enjoy camping out.;)
