Black visors are a post-WWII thing. In fact, you sometimes heard old timers talk about the "brown-shoe" Army or Air Force, meaning prior to the change to black-leather accoutrements. I'm not sure what year the exact change occurred, sometime in the mid- to late-1950s, I believe. Cold War stuff isn't as collectable yet, but it's still worth holding on to. As for the hat device, it can be removed and replaced, they're interchangable.
