It has a long saga sad saga. Apparently it was heat vaselined and is now permanently greasy.Holy cow that black horsehide is freeking gorgeous! Are both of those from the same hide? What is the story on these jackets? Are they for sale?
I clicked on the link and I think I read all the posts but didn’t see anything about the Vaseline saga.. I did enjoy the read though, it’s a magnificent looking jacket! It has a long saga sad saga. Apparently it was heat vaselined and is now permanently greasy.

Hah! I just read the ingredients of the stuff he used. It was Vaseline.Oh no! Ok I will read it now. Thanks appreciate it!
Definitely Vaseline and I knew many yrs ago how aweful that is for leather. Actually the only jackets I’ve ever needed to condition ( all natural) were the old 1950’s- 1970’s leather jackets I’ve owned and even then I didn’t need to condition them until after I washed them in the washing machine .. lol. Yes I did that but with lots of care and most of them came out beautifully. It’s hard to ruin a good leather jacket. I didn’t get to read that entire Vaseline story yet, but I’m convinced with proper care that it is salvageable.Hah! I just read the ingredients of the stuff he used. It was Vaseline.
One more thing I’ve learned, a chromium tanned leather jacket will rarely ever need conditioned. Even after a full wash, hang and dry in the sun, a chromium tanned jacket still won’t take conditioner very well. These are top tier jackets I’m speaking of.Oh no! Ok I will read it now. Thanks appreciate it!
Exactly the thread I thought about when I saw this jacket.Okay. It wasn’t Vaseline but he ruined the jacket.

I will check it out, thanks! I’ve been using Huberds on all my leather jackets, boots, hats etc. and it works great too. It is 100 percent pine tar and works very well…I just wanted to add, when I emailed Stuart Clurman from Lost Worlds last year about eventual conditioning, he recommended Connolly Hide Care only if necessary https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002RXD5T6?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title
I used it on my five years old LW jacket for some light conditioning, but more so out of curiosity, and it didn't leave the surface oily or greasy at all. I just used it as per directions, and from what I've seen I would recommend it for anyone who wants to be particular about conditioning their LW jacket with what the manufacturer recommends.
I hate when a company doesn’t include the ingredient information. Leather is tuff and lord knows I beat the crap out of mine and they still look new. I think a person can do almost anything to them. I’ve washed mine in a washing machine with dawn soap and even put them in the dryer and they are still alive and doing well lol.. I will not do that to my lost worlds or aero jackets though!I just wanted to add, when I emailed Stuart Clurman from Lost Worlds last year about eventual conditioning, he recommended Connolly Hide Care only if necessary https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002RXD5T6?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title
