It has a long saga sad saga. Apparently it was heat vaselined and is now permanently greasy.

I clicked on the link and I think I read all the posts but didn’t see anything about the Vaseline saga.. I did enjoy the read though, it’s a magnificent looking jacket!

Hah! I just read the ingredients of the stuff he used. It was Vaseline.

Definitely Vaseline and I knew many yrs ago how aweful that is for leather. Actually the only jackets I’ve ever needed to condition ( all natural) were the old 1950’s- 1970’s leather jackets I’ve owned and even then I didn’t need to condition them until after I washed them in the washing machine .. lol. Yes I did that but with lots of care and most of them came out beautifully. It’s hard to ruin a good leather jacket. I didn’t get to read that entire Vaseline story yet, but I’m convinced with proper care that it is salvageable.

One more thing I’ve learned, a chromium tanned leather jacket will rarely ever need conditioned. Even after a full wash, hang and dry in the sun, a chromium tanned jacket still won’t take conditioner very well. These are top tier jackets I’m speaking of.
