It was on eBay for $200, among other sources.

A friend of mine found it elsewhere, and for $40.

I bought it and have a copy on CD

If you guessed that fellow on the cover is Joe Pesci, that's not lie, it's him. He used the name Joe Ritchie for this album, in particular. I do not know if he did for others, there are others too. The description on the back doesn't even mention his name or his singing, mostly the musicians holding the instruments. That tells you a lot of why they did that by how Joe Pesci sings. I think it's okay, but not very good.

The album was released in 1968.

And now for the truly gruesome:

I had been searching for a copy of this record for years. It was a minor hit from youth in the early 70s, and I couldn't remember too much about it except for the dialogue and the gospel chorus. Well, I was probably looking for this song for twenty years and no one could even tell me the title, though I knew 'understand' was in there somewhere; it seemed to be this lost record.

Anyway, last year I went to Lead East which is a 50s weekend in NJ, and they had a seminar by Lou Stallman who wrote quite a few hits over the years. He mentioned that one particular song of his had been banned in the 70s and I asked him the title. When he said 'Once You Understand' I flipped out. Here was the guy who wrote the very song I had been looking for all these years. I finally tracked it down to this site. If you've never heard it before, be sure to wait or the mind-blowing ending.

my find

Years ago I bought an LP by The Hassles. It was incredibly cheap.lol
After a while I looked at the guy with a thick mustache, he looked a little familar. His name was listed as William Joel.
You may know him as Billy.

Sincerely,
The WOLF

Jack, that is abysmal. Is there a back story? Was all the talking from a movie?

bk

Abysmal, yes. The funny thing is that when Stallman was talking, he said he was into making concept records in the 70s and immediately that song came into my head. Certainly, I didn't expect him to say that he wrote the damned thing.

Not from a film though. He said he had the idea and he assembled some studio musicians/masochists to put it together. Till I met him, I had always thought Mike Curb was somehow behind this. Probably still cursing himself for letting Stallman beat him to it.

Regards,

Senator Jack

Say! That's just the kind of repetitive, bad church camp sort of skull-popping codswallop I was hoping someone would implant in my head. I thought having ELO: Telephone Line stuck in my brain for weeks was bad enough, but this? THIS????

You owe us all a drink, Senator!

Okay this is possibly one of the best or worst albums known. I want to hate it but there's just something that keeps driving me to listen to it! [huh] :D

If you haven't heard it try the samples out- they are groovy!!

PS- Sorry bout the long link, I kept trying to upload the pic but I was repeatedly told that the upload failed both from my hd and from the url. :rage:

I have this one. It is a GREAT album. And i'm not sure the album art is all that bad, either.

If I'm not mistaken, the cover artwork was done by none other than Milton Glaser of Push Pin Studios!
