Women's Leather Jackets

Hello All,

I would like to get my wife a quality moto styled leather jacket. She prefers it to be a soft leather, so lamb or a naked cowhide or if there is another soft leather that I don't know about please mention it. The jacket won't be used for riding, she would like a style piece. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions or leads please?

I read on the schott website about their naked cowhide jacket, I think that would be soft however a review on the website says how the jacket isn't fitted so I know she wouldn't like it. Thanks in advance and you people on here have a ton of knowledge and great advice!!!

I've seen Fox Creek mentioned several times and customer service seems to be top notch. They make women's jacket and use naked cowhide.

The English film-costume outfit Wested makes several, and if their great work on their Indy jackets is any indication, they can probably provide custom sizing (or custom types/colors of leather) for a very fair price:

You could try contacting Johnson Leathers. Most of their showroom leathers are naked cowhide, and there was a particular women's green D-pocket Perfecto style I liked on a mannequin in their store window last time I was up there. They also do purses so they're no stranger to that market. I'm sure Alan wouldn't mind sending you pics of some of the ladies jackets he's done.

My wife has a Schott model 118W women's jacket, in red. It is fitted and made from very soft lambskin. It is really quite stylish and that jacket just oozes quality that is apparent. Available colors are black, red, and white.
And if that "don't do it:" Blake Lively wears one!

Is it wrong that while on the Foxcreek site I spent way more time looking at the mens motorcycle jackets!! Anyone out there have experience with Foxcreek??? Consider this thread officially derailed!!!

When I was up at the factory last month, they mentioned that Ken is working on a range of ladies jackets. I always thought the like of the 30s halfbelt types should be reworkable for women, given the very waisted nature of the design. I'd love to see a nice d-pocket MC in that range too. (Perfecto / lancer-front styles are undergoing something of a real fashion renaissance for women in the UK currently, though I don't know how much of that will really translate into business for the high end). The difficulty, of course, is in the patterning as the female form os much more complex (and varies much more significantly from individual to individual). I'm keeping an eye on those myself, as I'd like to buy one for my lady sometime in the next couple of years. I'll most likely look at the goatskin, as being hot-blooded (she'll be fine in a cardigan out when I feel the need of the Irvin!), she needs something lighter. Rachel did, I believe, mention that they're primarily working on patterns with the lighter hides for the ladies. The other half would possibly be happier with something cheaper, but if it's for a gift I'd rather buy her the best I can afford. [huh]

Johnson would be worth looking into in the US. I have one of their D-pocket MC jackets, bought used from another Flounger. Lovely jacket - the only thing that would really put me off thinking of a custom jacket from them would be the difficulty of doing it from this distance, and the inevitable hassle if anything did need tweaked.

I have a Schott Perfecto 618. Nice, mid-priced jacket off the rack. Wested aren't bad for what they are either. I'd never put my Wested Raiders up against any of my Aeros, but that said I bought it mint, used, for a tenth of the price of an Aero, so it's not exactly like for like... I wanted an Indy jacket but didn't want to pay serious jacket money for it, so this fit the bill. It's also great to have a lighter hide jacket that I don't have so much invested in (and can cheaply, easily, quickly replace) - this one has been to India with me, and worn out places where I wouldn't risk a pricier jacket (typically places thatmight be less than 100% secure and where I might want to take the jacket off and leave it to sit for a bit or whatever...). Of all my jackets, actually, it's had the most wear this Summer, being perfect for the heat. FWIW, I went with the goat on this. Not as nice as Aero's goat, marginally thinner, but plenty robust. Has that nice soft drape without the fragility of lamb (purely a personal bias, but I'd never be comfortable with lamb in a jacket, too concerned about ripping it). At the price they charge, Wested could also be a good option for anyone considering experimenting with a different style of jacket, or teenage kids who are likely to grow out of it very quickly. When nephew is old enough to get a year or more out of it, I'm tempted to order up one of their Perfecto styles for him.

As an aside, the ELC B17 jacket is a lovely repro of a WW2 original that was designed specifically for female flight crew (transporting planes across the US, never deployed in the warzone), though obviously textile rather than fabric.

That would work nicely. I could be entirely wrong, but I suspect, based on what I've seen of ladies jackets in general over the years, there might be proportionately more of a market for the longer styles among the ladies that the men. I'm sure they're popular enough with the men, but undoubtedly they take a back seat compared to the number of shorter jackets out there.

I also think a shorter Halfbelt might in fact look better on a woman than on a man. My lady wants a jacket, too, now, I successfully infected her with the jacket-bug.

I bought my missus a 34" Highwayman in 2003 and it went doen like a lead zeppelin and fitted like a tent .... I then bought her a neat fitting 36" cafe racer in 2005 again it went down like a concrete bi-plane ..... sleeves were too long and overall it wasn't cut for the female form.

In frustration, I sent Will at Alexanders one of HER favourite jackets to see if he could make a pattern similar promised to make her something similar in style(ish) in better hide ( it's a cheap pigskin .. she nominated old grease steer based on the samples) and to a MUCH better std. than the fashion jacket construction her's is made to at the moment.

He's had it for about 4 months .... and I sent buttons ( SWMBO wanted a specific antique brass button)a couple of months ago but I know they have been flat out with the Nigel Cabourne stuff ..... will post pics when it gets here.
