Winter traveling with one hat

I travel a lot from Oct through May. I wear my camel colored Polo as it goes with everything. What color hat would be the most versatile for your one hat?
Thanks for your help.

Hi, jt. Welcome to the lounge. You'll like it here.

What color will work best for you depends on what colors are in your wardrobe. I'd suggest considering what you wear most and then making a hat color decision from there.

I'm somewhere in Art Fawcett's que for one of his customs, and I'm planning to ask him to use his granite color. It's mostly gray, but I can see some brown in it if I put it next to earth tones such as khaki.

It seems the shades of brown and grey are the most versatile. Off topic, but Bob, I hope you are ahead of me on Arts list so I can see the granite before I have to make my final choice:D

Bart, there are several granites posted around here. IC has one, Univibe has one, and Not-Bogart has one. All of these people recommended it to me, especially as a first custom hat choice.

I don't know how deep in Art's que I am now. I thought I should have the hat early in Oct, but with Art's circumstances, I wouldn't be surprised if it takes longer. In any case, I'm certain it will be worth the wait. The man obviously needs to take care of himself first and hats somewhere after that.

Rest assured, you'll see it soon after it arrives. ;)

Torn between granite and silverbelly. The wait is part of the fun:D

A style that you are comfortable with (in my case a fedora) in either a medium grey or medium brown (depending on your wardrobe), with a complimentary rather than contrasting ribbon.

Decisions, decisions, eh? lol

I have a silverbelly coming from Major Moore. I asked him to pick the ribbon for it, and I know he's working on it. He sent me some pictures of steaming, stretching and sanding the hat body.

I have mostly dark hats, so I'm trying to expand my selection to some light colors too. I also have a silverbelly Campdraft ordered, but Akubra's silverbelly isn't really what I think of as silverbelly. It's more like Art's sand.

What I really need to do is quit ordering hats! [huh]

Good luck with that Boblol lol I have also made the move to lighter hats, and relative to the original post I feel that the lighter hats seem more versatile. Atleast at this point.

I really need to slow down, but this is a bunch of fun. I got a nice bonus this year and bonus money is funny money, or hat money in this case. :D

I have a 'go-to' hat in medium grey with black ribbon and one in dark brown with lighter brown ribbon.

I'd probably take the grey for a more refined vacation like a cruise or a tour of Europe. I'd probably take the brown one for a more adventurous trip like day hiking, walking tours, zoos, etc.

One of the things which to me is very pleasing however, is when in the old ads you'd see someone in a brown suit with a grey hat. Or a blue suit with a brown hat. That just kills me - in a good way. It sort of says, "This is the hat I like, and I pursue that aesthetic for it's own sake without an overdeveloped attachment to matching wardrobe pieces in the way ladies do." The nature of most of the muted colors of vintage hats - whether they be the greys or the browns - is to compliment most ensembles and to 'pop' but not clash.

Thanks for all the replies. I have a brown, a grey and a blue. I guess I'll travel with the grey.
