This Akubra Featherweight Squatter was my main work and road hat for nearly 20 years before being retired to the farm for the occasional bit of steer-rump belting. But like Borat's wife..I have a new one.
by the crown of course, and the holes were kept at bay for a while with kangaroo hide which you can see peeping through..the 'holy' look is also highly prized by country dwellers here and the more battered your hat, the more authentic or 'dinkum' you appear..some outback pubs have walls covered in them, here is the replacement same size brand etc, it''ll take a while to reach the state of it's elder as I'm a bit more careful these days..they cost a lot more
there was also a style about when I was young where we would stick pencils in the crown to give a rake to our school hats like an exaggerated 'digger's hat' which I think akubra still makes in the original style which is different to contemporary Australian army issue,
