Just the matching ribbon and wind trolley (as opposed to the more common black) seems to have transformed and elivated this baby to something even more superior. THAT is a GREAT look :eusa_clap
Go get that camera snapping with that lid on your noggin and let's see you sport the whole ensemble, as with the right suit THAT will be totally AWESOME (I know, a few weeks stateside and I'm going all American![huh] ).
As promised, my entry ticket to the Whippet Club House I'm dashing out to work here so had to be quick, but gives you and idea of what a lovely shape and attitude this wee fella has (the hat - not me!).
That hat looks good, but I gotta say that your photos show a perfect example of how a hat truly is the finishing touch to an outfit! :eusa_clap :eusa_clap
There was a box dedicated to the Whippet. A cool design with multiple Whippets (dogs, that is) racing around the outside of the box. I don't know how long this box was offered, but it is certainly distinctive.
I think the hat had a lot of things going for it: a very good advertising campaign, a moderate design which fit most any face and head shape, the Stetson brand and a catchy name.
It along with the Stratoliner, a Cavanaugh and a vintage Borsalino make up the backbone of any fedora collection. I have a lot of vintage hats but, alas, not the Cavanaugh.
Paddy: the first photo is the example for me why Whippets are so prized.
simple, elegant, dashing, confident; both the hat and you, in that photo.
If anyone has any more questions about how & why-a picture's worth...
thanks. my daily ration of "somebody got it RIGHT!!"
Ahhhhh. As Ellington (or was it Strayhorn?) once wrote, "I'm Beginning to See the Light". Fantastic, Paddy! I'm sold.

So what is the consensus on a new Whippet? I saw it on the Stetson site. I would be more comfortable buying a more expensive hat when I can try it on in person. I need a big size (7 1/2)which is hard to find vintage online. I found my first Fedora (a Sacred Feather "Big Deal" fur felt) in a vintage shop in Reno for 7.00. I'm guessing it was too big for anyone that had come by to try it on!
I have no idea what the concensus is but I can guess. I have two modern whippets. Many here would complain that the crown is shorter and more tapered. If I felt that way, I would reblock it. But I like my whippets just the way they are.
