Why!!!! Hipsters!!! Why!!!!!

Actually country music did reach its apotheosis in the '70s cause I haven't really heard anything quite as good since then.

Tammy Wynette -- Good Loving (1971)

Johnny Duncan -- Hello Mexico (And Adios Baby To You) (1978)

Johnny Paycheck -- I'm The Only Hell My Mama Ever Raised (1977)

Well now, notice I didn't mention 70s Country Music. That wasn't hippiefied and disco diseased. :p

First cut of Ring of fire was recorded during the early 60s!

Tammy Wynette "miss stand by your man" made me think of Rose Garden by Lynn Anderson; I beg your pardon, I never promised you a rose garden;

and the cover of "Baby Its You" by Smith;

Sounds like a cross between whale song and the Star Trek theme song.

:D

You are hopeless.

(The theremin is hauntingly beautiful instrument when played correctly, isn't it)

Yes, it was on his 1963 album of the same name: Ring of Fire: The Best of Johnny Cash.

BTW, what in earth poor Johnny Cash has to do with a hipster thread? He deserves better! Another 1970s r'n'r favorite is Steve Miller Band; "I'm a picker, I'm a grinner I'm a lover and I'm a sinner I play my music in the sun"

Yes, that is true but since he would likely make hipster's ears bleed......lol lol

Steve Miller fits right in though. :p

Eh, Johnny Cash is an icon among young musicians in skinny jeans. Why wouldn't he be?

Out of interest, how many 'hipster bands' have you guys listened to? How many can you even name?

Berlin's housing bubble and the backlash against hipster tourists. Glasgow had a similar bubble. Lots of southern folks moved up there and prices rocketed. Then they realised they were in ****ing Glasgow, and got the hell out quick smart.

I was in Berlin this summer and I could see elements of that process, compared to earlier visits. Mind you, I also saw the opposite side by visting the suburb of Kopernik to watch the local football club, FC Union. There was a shortage of hipsters, but a surfeit of people who appeared to be living in the 1980s. It was rather refreshing. I can only compare it to watching Brentford play twenty years ago (unfashionable football mathces are great places for people watching - I won't say anymore in case we have any FC Union supporters on the forum!)

As for Glasgow: that's a real city of contrasts. The friendliest place on earth for half the time: the rest of the time it's a place for crazy folk. It reminds me of when the tried to house asylum seekers out on the schemes. After a wave of violence the asylum seekers were asking to be sent back to England.

the song War (what is it good for) is always fun.

Did you ever hear Laibach's version of 'War'? It asks 'War - what is it good for?' then lists all those companies IBM, CNN etc who make money out of war. It is fantastic, Slovenian, art-rock pomposity at its finest.

If you have to ask that, it's not worth an answer. Hey, BTW, has the REA run power lines out to you yet? :p

:D

Come on, is this high school? So you don't like it. That's cool.

Nah, it's more that you're not vintage enough. If you were proper vintage, you would hate it too. ;)

Silly me. I mean, obviously hipster music like, say, A.A. Bondy has nothing in common with real music like Johnny Cash. I need to learn to think before I speak. ;)

Well, in fact I happened to accidentally listen one hipster band, "The black keys". In my defense, I have to say I had no idea they were hipsters :eusa_doh:

Could you provide some examples of other hipster bands?

I'm currently unclear on what hipster even means in this thread, but how about the aforementioned A.A. Bondy, The Ettes, Laura Marling, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Iron & Wine, Isobel Campbell (from iconic proto-hipster band Belle & Sebastian) & Mark Lanegan?

Wow, I only knew Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and I don't think they are hipsters. I liked their "Howl" album and songs like "Shuffle Your Feet" or "Ain't No Easy Way". This style is classic rock.

I'm going to watch the other youtubes you posted. I'll let you know if I like any of those bands ;)
