I wear a long DB coat to school at the moment and I think I only know one other student at my school that wear a coat(a trench-coat, I think), though there are about 1100 students there, so I really stand out.

Some of my classmates call me "Herr Detert"(Herr = Mr.; Detert ist my last name) for fun everytime I wear my coat and I normally reply with the salute the Queen or the pope always does!lol

Regards,
Henrik

I suppose it's much more mild here in the winter, but every public place I can think of is always heated to the point where you'll boil in anything more than a t-shirt and jeans. The cold would only be that period between walking from your house to your car and from there to your destination. If I wear even a thick jacket I'll find I have to take it off and lug it around just to keep cool.

I find that's often what happens when I go places too. In California I rarely needed a coat - it hardly ever got cold enough to me to merit wearing one, and when it did the exposure to the outdoors just wasn't long enough to bother putting one on. Here in England it's a different story though. Especially since I'm stuck with public transportation. I bundle up more when I know I'm going to be stuck outside in the cold waiting for a bus.

What I always found strange was in high school when people would wear pants year round - even when it was super hot in the summer. Where were the shorts and skirts?

As I've 'matured', wearing a coat outside in the winter is a must!, heck around here it's more like winter, spring and fall where you've got a bit of a chill in the air! Plus, I've aquired some really nice coats, and to me, they really complete the 'posh' look when I'm outdoors.
When I was a teenager, this was a whole different story...the cold just didn't seem to affect me like it does now. I remember wearing my little mini-skirts to school and being perfectly fine.

Living in So. Cal. I have no idea what is going on elsewhere. I had a true winter coat in the closet for decades and finally gave it to Goodwill. Any light-medium outterwear will do here.[huh]

The weather is very mild where I live. No need for coats, and that is a pity because I have a few that are beautiful but haven't worn for years!

Girls especially at my school don't wear coats and do wear skimpy clothing and complain of being cold. Hm. Not too bright. Helplessness and lack of common sense is not attractive to me.

What do most schools, offices and public buildings NOT have anymore?

Coatrooms.

If you wear a heavy outercoat there is now nowhere to check or hang it (not that I'd leave my good stuff out unprotected in public anymore) in most places you'd go. If you can't check it, you have to haul it around or, if staying in one place, dump it on a chair or something. You can't wear it inside, because the interior temp is usually north of 70. In defense of the kids, those half-lockers don't really have room for real coats and boots and the 200 pounds of books and trash schools seem to feel they need now.

So, if you wear an overcoat, it's figure out how to wrangle the thing around all day or plan to do without and be cold from the car to the door.

We have the same problem with hats, no hatstands in offices or restaurants so it has to go on the spare seat if available, or on the floor, or on your lap.

Buildings are no longer designed nor furnished to fit traditional dress.

As far as not understanding the female of the species (especially the high school type), they will often have a coat on but have it open and complain of being cold.

Zip it up young lady, it'll get warmer.

yep. I overheard a girl in my school complaining how cold she was that day last week when it his 5 degrees. She was wearing a strappy top and a skirt, with an unzipped north face fleece. She was complaining to her friend how she was going to take the fleece back to the store, because, "like, north face stuff is supposed to be ,like, warm":eusa_doh:

Here and I thought I was so suave and sophisticated: I'm a sophomore at Kent State University. Although some would consider it a high school...

I was remarking on the wisdom of the girls with a particularly egregious example that still strikes me today, not implying that that example included your peers. I apologize for the misunderstanding.

Girls+Downtown Chicago+Flip flops+Febuary Chicago weather= The most annoying L ride I've ever endured.
"I'm cold. It's cold. Why is it so cold?"

I'm sorry girls, let me turn the temperature up in the whole mid-west. Can someone point me towards the thermostat? I think it's somewhere near Iowa.

When I was in middle school, there was a rule against wearing coats in the building, presumably because they could conceal weaponry that couldn't be hidden in the enormous Jinco jeans that were fashionable.

And of course, when traveling by air, the fewer garments one wears, the fewer one has to remove and replace. Security, you know.

I haven't worn a good coat all week. And it's been freezing in Jersey. Why, you ask? Simple. It's at the cleaners. The only reason I can see to not wearing proper attire for such temperatures. I seen a kid in shorts 2 days ago. Honestly, what are their parents thinking? Maybe they all have big life insurance policies taken out on them...

I still see a fair number of coats downtown, or when I go home to New York, but it does seem that big baggy down (?) coats and Gore-Tex are winning out. I certainly hope that they haven't reached point of obsolescence.

1. I love coats and am always sad when I can no longer wear them in the spring.

2. I see students constantly walking around sans-coat.

3. Flip Flops Everywhere on campus flip Flops ARGHHHHHHHH

4. muck a lucks (Ugs?) seen them in winter and summer of all things.

5. I am seeing more rain boots, in some cute styles too. Seems to be a good trend.
