I put a pic of Bale at the hospital on another thread yesterday. Hell man..anyone can rant at times..even me :D I think Bale is one hell of an actor. The first film I saw him in..he played the part of a guy alone in his apartment...who eventually started killing people...and in the end..you were led to believe it might have been all in his imagination. Can't remember the name of that movie(long time ago)...but he really impressed me! This guy can not only play the hero...he can act. (just looked the movie up...'American Psycho' out in 2000) HD
Totally agree - but you ranting does surprise me... ;)He's totally immersed in his roles - almost to the point of scary. But the results speak for themselves.

Steve McQueen belongs to the film period I never enjoyed. Plus, to me, he always came across as completely bland. Can't even recognize him from one pic to another. Michael Fassbinder is the same, so I'm nominating him.

How "manly" the popular heroes of any one era are will always vary - as, of course, will the very notion of what it is to be manly. Me, I tend to the view that anyone in any age who is caught up worrying about whether he is manly or not by very definition can't be.
.
Agreed. It's not an important criteria. And I have no clue about cars or motorbikes either so I would fail the test anyway :D

I don't think they worried about being manly, they just were.
Contrary to some members here who desperately try to get a manly sweater, manly boots, manly jacket and whatsnot ;)
Or to find manly role models.

I see what you did there

I guess it was aimed at me (and the people I agreed to) but he is right. Just because I have a slightly different taste (when it comes to movies and role models) I shouldn't laugh about others. Maybe the whole vintage workwear trend is about some desire to become more manly, rugged and "real"...and I like vintage workwear.

Ack. Nothing here worth getting butt-hurt over. Jeez, if I want to have a bunch of people agree with me all the time I'll go elsewhere. Nobody has been over the line, IMO. I also laughed at the "Clooney" nod. My opinion, worth the same as everyone else's...

Steve McQueen's whole screen persona was cool. If you watch the Wanted Dead or Alive series you can see how he worked on it. I think he was cool off-screen because he was a good dad, per Chad McQueen and a good ex-husband per his first ex-wife Neile Adams, philanthropically inclined and followed his passion for fast machines without apologies. He also had a sense of humor and didn't take himself to seriously. He was the first to admit that he played himself on screen and that just shows that he was o.k. with himself.
