Where did you get that hat?

Or rather, where can I get a newly made hat of this style:

It appears to have a rather high, straight crown of perhaps six inches total height, and a rolled brim about 2 5/8" wide.

Very stylish in 1928 and 1929.

Might an Akubra Federation be blocked to this pattern, or at least something close?

I have a rather large head (size 7 1/2) and so would be unlikely to find an original.

Looks to be a homburg with a front pinch. I've seen a number of these in 7 1/2 on ebay this year. Most of them go higher than I want to pay, but they are out there. For some reason, larger sized vintage homburgs seem more common than fedoras. [huh]

At any rate, Art Fawcett may be able to replicate that. I don't think I've ever seen a Fawcett Hburg, but it can't hurt to ask.

This is a soft hat, rather than the stiff felt of the Homberg. I see old catalog illustrations from 1927-29 that list this as just another pattern of Fedora, or just "A New Style in Hats"

I second NB13, that looks like a Homburg with a front pinch. Homburgs can have a soft felt. I have several vintage Homburgs; their felt varies, from more to less supple, but none is stiff. All but one can be dry-creased.

Indeed, they come cheaper than fedoras in the Bay. If you prefer the custom way, I can confirm Art Fawcett does Homburgs; I recall having seen at least one example, here at the Lounge, although can't place the thread.

That's what frustrates me about eBay - apparently people used to have somewhat smaller heads than they do today, so the 7 1/2's are rare, making the demand and thus, the price, higher.:eusa_doh:

I second the Art Fawcett motion - I've always drooled over the amazing hats he makes and I'd love to see a Homburg Work of Art. -M

Actually, I have found that homburgs were, back in the day, soft. Only bowlers were hard. I have handled several vintage homburgs that were amazingly soft. The Stetson St. Regis (which looks much like the one in the clip) is has a softer crown than most vintage fedoras I've encountered!
