Well, the first question is what's your price range?

Dinerman is essentially correct in pointing you to eBay. I recently picked up a real deal straw Milan for less than $20. It needs some work, but it was a steal.

If price is no object, Optimo hats in Chicago has probably the finest Milan around, see: http://optimohats.com/newsletter/issue3/index.html, but their Milans carry a price tag of $395

There are of course, custom options as well. Bob at Black Sheep Hat Works is currently working on a real straw Milan for me. Art Fawcett does Milans as well.

Just as a suggestion, but by the appearance of yours it looks like you were in the habit of putting it on and taking it off by grabbing the crown. They will last a lot longer if you get in the habit of taking them on and off by taking hold of the brim instead. Repeated grabbing of the crown on both straws and felts will cause it to deform and crack and just all around look bad. Just a suggestion that some of us learned the hard way.

Well, I'm not exactly rich. For me, "affordable" is generally up to $25. But one hat usually lasts me years, and I'm particular about hats, so I'm willing to go up to $50 or so, possibly a bit more.

Thank you for the advice. I never thought of that. You are correct that I do generally lift my hat by the crown, although most of the damage to the hat occurred due to the hat winding up buried under a large pile of items in a closet.

Remember you can clean the hat ribbon and bow on your old hat and put it

Some ink got on it, and I tried to clean it. That's why it has that big stain. The more I try to clean it, the worse it looks.

The straw has become brittle, and the stitching is barely holding together. I don't think there's much that can be done for it.

Closets eat hats.
Also, try the ribbon work.
A little cool water and mild dish soap will work wonders with ribbon. Just let it dry flat so it will look nice when you put it back on the hat.

Akubra "Bushman" would come close. It can be bought from Wrangler Outpost cheaper than David Morgan sells it for...the Bushman has a generous 3 1/4 inches snap brim...

Heh, ribbon on the wrong side. You are probably right that it is a mirrored image, though. Catalogs do that all the time. Funny, when I was briefly thinking of getting a hat like on the TV show Justified I found that the TV people put the buckle of the leather hat band on the wrong side of the hat in a few seasons of the show. So, big he-man Ralan Givens was wearing his hatband like a woman! LOL

+1 on the bushman. J.J. Hat center in NYC has them in stock so if you're in the area you could try one on. they have grey like Ingineer's and fawn like mine.
