Where are the Great Steak Houses??????

In LA and over in La Canada is the old fashioned and clubby Taylor's Steak House which has a great "baseball steak" that I like rare with a char.

In Beverly Hills the Arnie Morton's of Chicago is superb. Over at Dan Tana's I had a great steak and meal a while back with friends.

Many of the famous chains of steak houses are represented in Las Vegas and nearly every big Hotel & Casino has a steak house that is great. i had a memorable steak at the independant restaurant the Golden Steer in LV. The Steak House in Circus Circus is a fine place. Fiore in the Rio has sorta become their Steak House and I had some exceptional Lamb Chops there.

I also had a great T-bone at the coffee shop in the Gold Coast, last time I was there.

The coffee shop at the Gold Coast isn't that bad either for a casino spoon.

If you happen to be in Houston, the very uncreatively-named "Houston's" is pretty good.

I've eaten there several times, nice small place. Independent I think. Anybody from the area know it? It's over in the Kirby/Westhimer/River Oaks area.*

*I'm not quite for sure because I don't live there, I visit friends in the area a lot.

Kirby and Westpark, though now they call it Upper Kirby.

I think a people will be calling Kirby something less complimentary during the current street construction.:eusa_doh:

Don't know if any of the other L.A. area Loungers have already posted this one, but there's The Venice Room in Monterey Park, which is REALLY old school, as, it's actually a bar that just happens to serve steak, and only steak, no menu, just whatever cut of steak they have that day, you grill it yourself on a huge grill, and get a few sides.

If you are in Orange Texas, there is a place called "Robert's" that serves some of the best fillet mignon that I have had in my life, I happen to have a thing for fillet mignon so everywhere I go that sells it, I get one.

I had dinner at Stack's over at the Mirage in Las Vegas last night. The 24 oz ribeye was excellent, however the side french fries were much to be desired. I recommend The Steak House at Circus Circus or The Golden Steer on Sahara before eating here.

That's also one of those things, know if you've hit a place on a 'bad' night where they are having nothing but problems.

I just remembered having some of the best crake cakes ever at Buzio's in the Rio in Vegas.

Steakhouse

In NYC: I like the Old Homestead, and Keens. The Old Homestead claims to be the oldest steakhouse in NYC, and Keens was a private club that became a steakhouse in 1872. Keens was a place for a gentleman as well as ladies to go enjoy smoking his or her clay pipe. Theodore Roosevelt dined there, as well as Lilly Langtree and countless other celebrities. In my native NW Arkansas try Gaskins Cabin in Eureka Springs. Hermann's in Fayetteville. One of the best kept secret is just across the stateline in Shell Knob Missouri is the Steak Inn.

If you're ever in Oklahoma City, make sure to check out Cattleman's Steakhouse in the old stock yard section of the town. It's consistently ranked as one of the top steak houses in the country and has been around for over a century.

Val's in Daly City, CA is an excellent "old school" steakhouse. Try to Ossobuco, veal shank, it is excellent.

If you are up here in Canada i recommend The Keg Steakhouse & Bar. It's a smallish chain that started right here in North Vancouver BC.. I see they are all over western Canada now and there are some locations in the USA as well.
Anyway we've been going there for many many years when we want "a big hunk of meat" for dinner...

Pretty darn tasty.

Vic & Anthony's is where we have the Firm's annual Christmas lunch. Our team also ate there once in August to celebrate the end of a trial that lasted almost 3 months.
(Please note that the next night after the jury came back with a verdict, we celebrated the VICTORY at a much swankier place, Tony's. )

I've also been to the Strip House a couple of times - once in 2005 and once in 2007.

The very best part of all of this is of course the fact that I've had to pay for my own meal at any of these places only once! (Strip House 2005)

Indy really does have a great downtown, and St. Elmos is the kind of place FLers would love. It's an old school manly kind of place, I recommend it highly.
