Fresh organic pasta, fettucine (from the refrigerator case, not the dry stuff), tossed with infused Italian herb olive oil, with roasted yellow and orange peppers from the grill, and then mixed with sauteed fresh picked red tomatoes, onion and fresh garlic. Topped with fresh basil and lots of rough grated fresh locatelli and parmesan cheese. Side of fresh green beans, steamed and a bit of butter, and black pepper. Fresh hot crusty bread with more butter (I know, fattening but so good). Glass or two of any red wine. Or white....or pink.....just wine!

So dinner last night requires a small amount of background.

My girlfriend went over to her friend's apartment for dinner - girls do this, I have never gone over to a single guy friend's of mine apartment for dinner. This morning, our conversation went something like this:

Me: How was it?
GF: We had a great time, we just sat around and talked.
Me: Uh-huh, did you watch something?
GF: No, just chatted.
Me: Uh, music on?
GF: No
Me: What ja have for dinner?
GF: We weren't really hungry, just salad.
Me: Anything else?
GF: We picked at some grilled chicken.
Me: And?
GF: That was it.
Me: Anything to drink?
GF: A glass of wine.
Me: Just one?
GF: I had one, Jane had a half a glass.
Me: Uh-huh, um, dessert?
GF: Nope
Me: It was fun though?
GF: I really enjoy spending time with her.
Me: That's good.

I've gone to a bar, had several drinks and spent the night talking with a friend. Usually, some food will get ordered - even just bar snacks - but more than salad. I've gone to a friend's house where a bunch of us got together, but never one on one for dinner.

So, that's the background of why I was alone for dinner. I strolled into the kitchen when I started to get a bit hungry, looked around at our reasonably barren cupboards and refrigerator, but did spy some day old bread and a few pieces of left over bacon. Being lazy, I took down a jar of peanut butter and have to say, a peanut butter and bacon sandwich is quite tasty. Chased it all down with a chocolate chip cookie and called it a night. Best part - I watched the first half of "Casablanca" while munching on my sandwich and cookie.

Leftover bacon? I did not know there was such a thing.
