Was getting ready to go to bed last night when Surreal Estate showed up on the television so we gave it a chance. It was okay overall. It had a few better moments here and there, but like most Sy-fy shows, it was lacking enough that I doubt we will watch it again. Better to quit now before we are forced to rage quit.

Nice fight card. No big name fighters instead a lot of quality fighters putting on an entertaining card.

I've been binging on Peep Show (the original, UK, version). I realise I missed one or two episodes during the course of the series. Interesting thing I've noticed this time round is just how awful a person I think Sophie was, which just makes Mark Corrigan all the more pitiable.

Finally got around to finishing The Luminaries. It ended stronger than it started. It wasn’t a bad series, but with the cast they had, I expected more.

The 1900 Island. PBS. I'm a sucker for these kind of shows. They were a thing for a bit there, so I was surprised this was filmed as late as 2019. Canadian public TV did a couple too. I missed the first episode, when they introduced the participants. Seems like an enormous expenditure, both financially and physically, for just four episodes. One of the families is the tough love type, while the others are more generous. That was made more interesting by a single comment one of the fishing advisors said about the man of this family. I could watch these "experiments" all day long, but in truth, it's always the same struggles with a set of various reactions and realizations. What's that Melville quote..."Seat thyself sultanically among the moons of Saturn, and take high abstracted man alone; and he seems a wonder, a grandeur, and a woe. But from that same point, take mankind in mass, and for the most part, they seem a mob of unnecessary duplicates, both contemporary and hereditary."

Last night, another episode of Vera. Well kind of since I was splitting time between it, reading, and trying to stay awake. I will have to try to rewatch/watch it again.

I came across "The Night Manager" on Prime, a series from 2016 based on the John LeCarre book. A cracking good spy thriller with a great cast. Finish it tonight and tomorrow watch the Brit lead in this one star in the biopic of Hank Williams. I am skeptical but willing to be wrong.

LeCarre's The Pigeon Tunnel if you haven't already read is a real autobiograghic dovetail clip
to his literary canon, its film production, and the enigma himself.

Grange Hill, a BBC children's drama which ran from 1978 until a few years ago. I've been watching early series that were before my viewing time - though I did see one 1978/9 episode that I know I did see without knowing what it was at the time (I was three or four at time of broadcast). It was a dramatic show set in a Greater London Comprehensive secondary school (a 'public' school in the US, but not UK, sense), and throughout its history dealt with a lot of contemporary issues (bullying, racism, abuse, drugs...) in a way which never patronised its intended audience. Holds up surprisingly well even now - and there are also a lot of great cars in outdoor scenes, including many late 50s and 1960s British classics which were still very common on the roads in 1978.
